Ofori challenges Wa All Stars to rise above Ghana Premier League storm

Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori has urged players of his former club Wa All Stars to step up their game in order to avoid relegation in the Ghana Premier League.

The Northern Blues are enduring one of their worst seasons in the topflight as they currently sit bottom of the table after 13 matches.

The side, who won the title in 2015-16, have registered just one victory so far this season, drawing four and losing eight games.

“They [players] need to wake up and do something for the club," Ofori, who was on the books of All Stars during their title triumph, told 442gh.

"If they don’t try to keep the club in the Premier League, they will suffer because no player wants to play in the [second tier].

"They need to do anything possible to remain in the league.

“The travelling is affecting them, [but they shouldn't use it as an excuse].

"You play against a club like Medeama [which requires about] 15-16 hours drive to the venue and you have to return on the day of the match in order to prepare for the next game.

"It is not easy. They need a strong mentality.

"We were there and we won the league traveling the same distances."

All Stars host newly-promoted Eleven Wonders in their next game on Sunday.

Ofori, meanwhile, is currently on the books of South African side Maritzburg United.
