Odoom eyes GPL coach of the month award

Tema Youth coach Edward Nii Odoom believes he is the person to pick the Ghana Premier League coach of the month award for June following his side's resurgence in the top-flight.

Tema went four games unbeaten during the month, picking two victories including a 4-0 away drubbing of regional rivals Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Odoom must beat competitions from Ashanti Gold manager CK Akunnor, who won all his four matches in the month under review, as well as Wafa boss Klavs Rasmussen, whose side also went unbeaten.

“It’s very encouraging and a good achievement that I’ve been nominated for this award. I will be happy if I emerge the ultimate winner ahead of the other nominees,” Odoom told Happy FM.

“We did very well in the month of June and moved out of the relegation zone for the first time in many months. The win over Great Olympics also underlined our improvement and I hope that we will continue until the end of the season in order to maintain our top-flight status.

“Having said that, I will not be bothered if I miss out on the award but, per the work I’ve put in during that period until now, I believe I’d be a deserving winner. Each nominee is a winner in a way and must be celebrated by his club and supporters,” he added.

Tema currently sit 11th on the log with 25 points and will welcome Ebusua Dwarfs in matchday 21 to the El Wak Sports Stadium on Sunday, as the league returns from the break.
