Michael Essien in star-studded lineup for 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup draw

The Chelsea and Ghana legend will join other world stars in determining the fates of the teams that qualified for the quadrennial tournament

Michael Essien will join Kaka, Louis Saha, Didier Deschamps, Mia Hamm and other stars in conducting the draw for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.

On December 8, La Seine Musicale in Paris, a famed venue for music and performance arts in France will host the event.

The former Ghana international will be joined by Franch World Cup-winning coach Deschamps, Brazil legend Kaka, women’s World Cup winners Hamm, Steffi Jones and Aya Miyama, and eight-time Paralympic gold medallist for skiing Marie Bochet as draw assistants.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United striker and France international Saha and Alex Scott are draw conductors, with Denis Brogniart and CNN presenter Amanda Davies moderators of the draw.

Representing Africa at the 2019 edition are Nigeria, South Africa [finalists at the ongoing 2018 African Cup of Nations in Ghana] and Cameroon/Mali.

The biggest tournament in women’s football which takes place across nine France cities kicks off at Parc des Princes, Paris on June 7.
