Manchester City players were embroiled in a minor fracas with police after Raheem Sterling's dramatic 98th-minute winner sparked wild scenes at Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Police have taken a statement from a Bournemouth steward who claims they were hit by Sergio Aguero as the City players celebrated with their fans.

Aguero did not speak to police before leaving the stadium, though sources have told Goal that City officials are confident their striker will be cleared of any wrongdoing.

Aguero and some of his team-mates had also appeared to confront police after a City fan had been led away as he celebrated Sterling's goal.

Sterling had raced to the away end after bagging a deflected winner which handed City a 2-1 victory, which landed him a controversial second yellow card from referee Mike Dean.

Hundreds of City fans raced to the front of the stand to celebrate the goal and some were already spilling over the advertising hoardings before the England winger arrived to join in.

Pictures suggest Aguero was involved in a minor confrontation with one officer as the City supporter was detained, before several team-mates intervened.

City's Benjamin Mendy was also involved, though the eccentric left-back characteristically made light of the situation by suggesting the trouble came as a result of a parking fine he picked up earlier this week during a trip to a Nando's in Manchester.

The France international also played down the incident when speaking to reporters after the match, saying: "At one stage the people came onto the pitch but it was nothing, just like this.

“Today was very important for me to start with a win, and to celebrate the goal with the supporters was amazing.”
