Matchday 13 preview: Ghana Premier League returns in midweek

After a three-week break, the Ghana Premier League resumes with matchday 13 action on Wednesday and Thursday.

The regular matchdays of the topflight had been put on hold in order to clear a pile of outstanding games, and as well permit the release of players to the national under-20 team for their 2019 Afcon qualifying double-header against Algeria.

But all is set for the championship to take centre stage once again.

At the Golden City Park, Medeama will have to pick all points at the expense of home side Berekum Chelsea to stand a good chance of maintaining their lead on the table. The Blues, meanwhile, sit 12th on the log.

Two points adrift of the top, Ashanti Gold have set sights on a win away to second-from-bottom Ebusua Dwarfs to keep the chase on the Yellow and Mauves.

Third-positioned Dreams FC could possibly tie Medeama should they beat Eleven Wonders, who interestingly sit 11th on the table. The game is set for Dawu.

Referee Emmanuel Boateng will be the central man when fifth-placed Karela United host fourteenth-spotted Aduana Stars at Anyinase.

At the Malik Jabir Park, joint-top scorer Victorien Adebayor will be seeking to add to his seven goals when he leads Inter Allies into their away fixture against Wa All Stars.

Asante Kotoko, eighth on the log, have a tricky home encounter with Elmina Sharks, who dwell two places higher on the standings.

Bechem United, on the other hand, are eyeing their fifth win of the season when they host Liberty Professionals at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

And in the only game of Thursday, Hearts of Oak and Wafa are set for an exciting tie at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The Phobians sit 10th while the Academy Boys hold the fourth spot.
