While Asante Kotoko were left disappointed in their Ghana Special Competition match against Ashanti Gold, there was nothing but joy for arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in their visit to Cape-Coast-based Ebusua Dwarfs on matchday 11 on Sunday.
In Obuasi, Kotoko's hopes of closing up on Zone A leaders Medeama suffered another setback following a 1-0 away loss to The Miners. Mark Agyekum's goal on the stroke of half-time sent the Porcupines two straight games without a win and Ashgold up to fourth on the table.
Indeed it was a missed opportunity for second-placed Kotoko as Medeama were beaten 1-0 away at Bechem United. Charles Mensah netted the solitary strike for the sixth-placed Hunters.
In Zone B, Hearts came from behind to register a 2-1 win over Dwarfs. Albert Hammond opened the scoring for the hosts but a penalty from Christopher Bonney - a former Dwarfs player - and a 49th-minute Abdul Manaf Umar strike secured all three points for the Phobians who are still firmly rooted to the top spot. Dwarfs are third-from-bottom of the log.
In the battle for the second position in Anyinase, host Karela United emerged 2-1 winners over Wafa thanks to a double from Diawisie Taylor who has moved top of the scorers' chart with eight goals. The two teams were tied on points on the second position going into the fixture.
Liberty Professionals have moved up to fourth on the table following a 3-1 victory over Elmina Sharks. Simon Zibo, Benjamin Eshun and Elvis Kyei Baffour scored for the hosts while George Amonoo recorded the visitors' consolation.
In the last game of the zone - a bottom-of-the-table clash - Richard Addai scored to hand seventh-placed Dreams FC a 1-0 win over eighth-positioned Inter Allies.
