Keogh fires Glory to A-League summit

A massive three points for Tony Popovic's side

Perth Glory are sitting pretty atop the A-League ladder after pulling past Adelaide United 2-0 at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Glory started the game on the front foot with Joel Chianese hitting the crossbar just 13 minutes in after a delightful ball forward from Andy Keogh.

Easing their way into the game against a compact Perth side, the Reds were millimetres away from winning a penalty in the 40th minute with a handball ruled to have taken place just outside the box despite the use of VAR which suggested otherwise.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, both sides seemed to be nullifying each other in the second half until Keogh popped up with his fourth goal from as many games this season.

The Glory striker tapping home in the 73rd minute following a corner and almost grabbing another just minutes later only for Paul Izzo to deny him at the far post.

Adelaide pushed hard for an equaliser late in the game but Perth's defence held firm as they themselves wrapped up the contest with Chris Ikonomidis poking home into an empty net in the 90th minute following some great work from Fabio Ferreira.

The game's match winner is in a rich patch of form netting in all four A-League games to date. Tony Popovic appears to be getting the most out of the Irishman, who has the Golden Boot firmly in his sights.

A night to forget for: Craig Goodwin

The Reds' FFA Cup hero had a tough night at the office with Glory effectively shutting him out of the contest.
