Kenyan players impressed for Zesco United as they reached group stage of Caf Confederations Cup on Saturday.

Former Tusker striker Jesse Were was on target as defender David ‘Calabar’ Owino (formerly Gor Mahia), notched the second as the Team Ya Ziko confirmed their place in the next stage on a 4-2 aggregate against Le Messager Ngozi of Burundi.

Zesco United went into the return leg with a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Jackson Mwanza and midfielder Kondwani Mtonga. A draw at Stade Louis in Bujumbura could have also handed Zesco a passage to the pre-group stage as they fought to replicate their 2016 Caf Champions League success when they made semi-final debut in the competition.

Zesco United line-up against Le Messager de Ngozi: Jacob Banda (c), Daut Musekwa, Fackson Kapumbu, Kondwani Mtonga, David Owino Odhiambo, Misheck Chaila, Jackson Mwanza, Anthony Akumu, Idris Illunga Mbombo, Jesse Jackson Were and John Chin'gandu.

Substitutes: Lameck Nyangu (GK), Ben Adama Banh, Marcel Kasongo Kalonda, Dave Daka, Lazarous Kambole, Mwape Mwelwa and Bernard Mapili.
