Alan Shearer has congratulated Mohamed Salah for overtaking his English Premier League scoring record.
The scored his 32nd goal of the season thanks to his strike on the last day against Brighton & Hove Albion to set a new record for English topflight goals in a 38-match campaign.
32 - Mo Salah has now scored 32 Premier League goals this season, more than any player in a 38-game campaign in the competition. Master. #LIVBHA— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) May 13, 2018
Going into the clash against the Seagulls, the former AS Roma man sat level with Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez on the top-flight roll of honour.
Shearer got 31 goals at Blackburn in 1995-96, while Ronaldo and Suarez achieved theirs in 2007-08 and 2013-14 respectively, but the Egyptian breezed past them with his 26th minute strike.
Congrats to Rafa and all the players @NUFC for a brilliant season and finishing 10th. Well done AGAIN to all the fans for sticking with the team when at times it was tough. #NEWCHE — Alan Shearer (@alanshearer) May 13, 2018
Despite seeing his record sent into oblivion, the Newcastle took time to applaud the reigning African Player of the Year.
“Congratulations Mo Salah on beating our record – myself, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo,” Shearer told the Premier League’s official Twitter.
“You’ve had a magnificent season. What an impact you’ve had in that Liverpool team. It must be a joy to play in that team with so many chances created. Keep up the good work.”
Liverpool finished the season in fourth place with 70 points from 38 games and will feature in next season’s Champions League.
