Brazilian coach Marcos Paqueta has terminated his contract with Indian Super League (ISL) side FC Pune City and has officially signed for Brazilian club Botafogo. Although Paquetá had already led two training sessions at Botafogo, he was officially unveiled as the new manager on Thursday at Engenhão stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

He replaces Alberto Valentim and his current contract runs till 2019.

Paqueta has a tough task at his hand as The Lone Stars are currently in ninth place with 17 points in 12 rounds in the Brazilian Serie A.

"It is a great challenge to return to Brazil in a team with a great tradition like Botafogo, which has always had great professionals and has contributed greatly to the Brazilian team. I knew all the logistics of the job and I know the capacity of each one here.

"That was an important point in my decision to come to this club. You can count on my attention twenty-four hours a day. Botafogo has to be on a high level," said Paqueta after joining.

The gaffer wants to build on the work done by Valentim and does not believe that a complete overhauling of the system is required.

"On the two days I have been here, I was able to introduce some important game situations with the players and this brings a tranquillity. Of course we will have a period of adaptation between us. Valentine did a great job and we're going to upgrade on that. The line of work is similar and this makes the process easier," said Paqueta.

The 59-year old coach has had committed to taking over FC Pune City for the upcoming season but an offer from his home country has seen him negotiate a release.

FC Pune City now find themselves on the lookout for another coach.
