After losing their opener 0-5 against Kangchup Road Young Physical & Sports Association (KRYHPSA), Sethu FC garnered a 2-0 victory over Gokulam Kerala in an Indian Women's League (IWL) encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, Meghalaya, on Thursday. Gokulam had lost by the same margin against defending champions Eastern Sporting Union in their campaign opener.
SETHU FC [Sabina Khatun 17’, Manisha 86’] 2-0 GOKULAM KERALA
Despite Gokulam Kerala's enterprising start, it was Sethu FC who took the lead as Bangladeshi striker Sabina Khatun scored the opener in the 17th minute.
Fazila and Sanathopki led a concerted effort from Gokulam for an equaliser but they weren't able to penetrate the rival defence.
Meanwhile, Sabina almost scored another seven minutes past the half-hour mark but her shot was kept out by Rumpa, who was forced to make another save just before the break.
Fazila continued to show her persistence in attack but it was not to be her day as Sowmiya stood in the way of her attempt in the 48th minute.
It was Sethu FC's game thereon and Manisha, who had shot wide in the 72nd minute, made it 2-0. She got on the end of Sabina's pass and converted it with aplomb in the 86th minute to hand Sethu FC all three points.
As a result, Sethu FC now have three points from two games while Gokulam Kerala are yet to register a point.
