India U-16 defeat Tajikistan 4-2 to win four-nation tournament in Serbia

The result means that the Colts end the four-nation tournament undefeated.

India U-16 got the better of Tajikistan in a 4-2 result in their final match to win the four-nation tournament played between India, Serbia, Tajikistan and Jordan. Gibson, Sailo and Shabaj found the net for the Colts in Serbia on Sunday.

Bibiano Fernandes’ boys got off to a great start as the Indian outfit scored thrice within four minutes. Gibson opened the account with his lobbed shot in the fifth minute followed by Sailo’s strike from inside the box, two minutes later.

Shabaj added the third goal in the ninth minute but Tajikistan pulled back two goals in quick succession to walk off the pitch with the scoreline reading 3-2 in favour of India at the break. In the second half, Danu netted the fourth for India after Ricky set him up with a through ball.

India emerged victorious at the full-time whistle with a 4-2 scoreline and they concluded the tournament as undefeated champions. India bagged a total of seven points in the tournament from their two wins against Jordan and Tajikistan, and a goalless draw against host nation Serbia.

The exposure trip, funded by SAI (Sports Authority of India), is planned to help the team prepare for the AFC U-16 Championship Finals in Malaysia later this year.
