Imo school sports boss wants Coca-Cola to sustain grassroots competition

The Imo top official has hailed the impact of Copa Coca Cola on youths of the region and has charged Coca Cola to sustain the competition.

The Director, School Sports, Imo State, Anyalebechi Christopher has charged Coca Cola never to be deterred in their sponsorship of the Copa Coca Cola competition or be overly concerned about the what they will gain as a company but that at the long run they are going to proud of the hidden talents that will be discovered when they are making waves in the sport.

Anyalebechi who is among the local organizing committee that is helping to actualize the dream of Coca Cola at the Owerri centre disclosed that the competition ever since its formation has helped to unite students from among the regions and Nigeria as a whole and he praised Coca Cola for its unrelenting and unyielding passion to help Nigerian youths combine education with sports.  

“It is good that Coca Cola is sponsoring tournament of this magnitude. It will help to fish out hidden talents in football. Coca Cola wants to mix education with sports. The major purpose is to encourage students to be involved in their studying and sports.  Students have to take their education serious. Most o the students that supposed to represent Imo State were dropped because we know that education is very important. They were dropped to allow them concentrate on their JS 3 exams,” Anyalebechi told Goal.

“I want to state that Coca Cola should look beyond the personal gains they are going to be getting. They should focus on what this do to the country in the near future. The students are really learning from the gesture of Coca Cola and they are no doubt urged on to do continue to study hard knowing that it won’t disturb their passion and love for football.”

The Copa Coca Cola U15 Regional playoffs will end in Owerri on Thursday with two matches slated. Abia and Rivers will slug it out in what could be the deciding tie of the region while Anambra will be waiting in the wing to capitalize in their own tie with Ebonyi.
