Gokulam Kerala midfielder Arjun Jayaraj is hoping to earn a call-up to the Indian national team but feels that it will be a challenge for him to adapt to Stephen Constantine's style of play.
In an exclusive chat with Goal, the young midfielder revealed his objectives for the ongoing I-League season. "The best thing would be to help the team become champions, at least get the team a top-three spot. I want to perform in a way that helps the team and in a way that helps me earn a call-up to the national team camp.
However, Arjun felt that playing for Stephen Constantine will be a challenge due to his style of play.
"Stephen Constantine's style of play is different. The style of play at Gokulam Kerala and the one that I like is different (to Constantine's).
"It is a challenge to play for India national team under Stephen Constantine. I have to adapt to his style of play. If I can do that, there are chances to play. I have to try and adapt."
At Gokulam Kerala, Arjun is happy with life under the tutelage of Kerala-born coach Bino George. Although the team had earlier hired a foreign coach in Fernando Valera, he left the club in pre-season and Bino was reinstated.
"It is good for the team to have a foreign coach, we might get new ideas. But our current coach Bino George is a Pro-License holder and knows the quality of Indian or Kerala players very well. He formulates a gameplan accordingly. So it is easier for players to play his style."
