Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has defended his decision to join Turkish side Kayserispor from Chinese outfit Shanghai SIPG on a two-year contract.
The 31-year-old was on a £227,000 per week in China, becoming the sixth highest paid players in the world in 2015, but took a huge pay cut to join the Turkish side.
He explains that money was not his motivation after rejecting a $1.2 million per annum offer from Bursaspor, which was above what he will receive at Kayserispor.
“Money is not important to me. I earned £7.5 million in China [during my two-year stint with Shanghai SIPG],” Gyan told Fanatik.com.tr.
“I have let go more than half of the money I will receive from you already. It’s important to score a goal, but people will be happy when the team wins. I will do what is best for me to make the fans happy. I am really happy to be here," he added.
