Huddersfield Town ace Steve Mounie shares the Squirrels' ambitions on their return to the tournament in nine years

Benin striker Steve Mounie is confident that his side will be able to register their first ever win in Africa Cup of Nations history at the upcoming showpiece in Egypt despite drawing Ghana, Cameroon and Guinea-Bissau in the group stage.

The Squirrels, who will be making their fourth appearance at the June 21-July 19 championship, were placed in Group F in the final draw conducted on Friday.

The upcoming tournament will mark their return to the continental showpiece, having last featured in 2010.

"To be honest it's a tough group," Mounie told BBC Sport.

"We have to take our chance, do our best on the pitch and make proud our country. [We have to] make the people of Benin proud.

"If we get our first win, it will be historic - so first of all win a game, try to go through the groups and we'll see what happens.

"I am so excited about this. It's been a while that Benin was at the Africa Cup of Nations and we are all excited about it."

Benin will open their campaign against Ghana on June 25 before taking on Guinea-Bissau, who will be making only their second appearance at the championship.

The Squirrels will then wrap up the group series with a clash against seven-time champions and holders Cameroon on July 2.
