Ghanaian forward Kwasi Okyere Wriedt made his Bayern Munich debut on Wednesday as the Bavarians beat RB Leipzig on penalties to make the third round of the DFB-Pokal.

The 23-year-old was an extra-time substitute at the Red Bull Arena, replacing Thiago Alcantara in the 101st minute.

And what an impact he almost had as his header from a corner struck the woodwork three minutes after being on the pitch.

In the end, goalkeeper Sven Ulreich was the hero of the day as he saved Timo Werner's kick to ensure a 5-4 win for Bayern on penalties.

The score read 1-1 after extra time as Emil Forsberg and Thiago Alcantara cancelled out each other.

Wednesday's fixture was Wriedt's maiden appearance for Bayern at senior level following a three-year move from third tier side VfL Osnabruck in August.

Having been on the bench in the Bavarians' last two Bundesliga games, the centre-forward will hope to make his league debut when Bayern play Leipzig again on Saturday.

His rise to the first team has been due to a fine form for the German champions' second team, having netted 10 times in 12 appearances in the Regionalliga.

Born to Ghanaian parents, Wriedt could be handed a swift call-up by Ghana for November's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Egypt in the Black Stars' bid to secure his international future.

Despite once linking up with Ghana's under-20 side, the frontman is still eligible to represent Germany at senior level as he was born in Hamburg.
