Ghana hints interest to replace Kenya as Chan 2018 host

Ghana's youth and sports minister Isaac Asiamah has dropped a hint that the country may officially bid to host the 2018 African Nations Championship (Chan) after Kenya was stripped of the hosting right last week.

The East African country, according to Caf Executive Committee, lost the right due to inadequate infrastructural facilities and political instability.

Following Ghana’s successful organisation of the 2017 Wafu Cup of Nations which ended on Sunday the minister believes they can host future tournaments.

The Chan is scheduled to take place in January 2018.

“As a country, we are ready to host any Caf organised tournament. We did well in hosting the Wafu tournament without any bad report. The Fox sports people were happy with the whole organisation including the infrastructures we used.” Asiamah was quoted as saying by Ghanaweb.

“Almost Cape Coast alone has been able to host the Wafu. We have Tamale Sports Stadium, Kumasi Sports Stadium and the renovation of Accra Sports Stadium will start this year so Ghana stands at any point in time to host any Caf tournaments,” he added.

Goal understands that Morocco, Ivory Coast and South Africa are the countries aside Ghana that have plans to submit a bid.
