Ghana confirm final Wafu Cup of Nations squad ahead of Saturday opener

The Ghana Football Association has announced the Black Stars B's final team for the Wafu Cup of Nations which kicks off on Saturday.

Coach Maxwell Konadu's list contains five players from Hearts of Oak, while rivals Asante Kotoko and Wafa each have three men on the roster.

Phobians' playmaker Winful Cobbinah is expected to inspire the Black Stars to victory in the first ever 16-team Wafu tournament following his outstanding form in the Ghana Premier League.

Gideon Waja, who was part of Ghana's senior squad for the recent double-header against Congo in 2018 World Cup qualifying, has predictably been selected.

Unattached Seidu Salifu, who surprisingly made the provisional squad despite being out of club action for some time, has been forced to withdraw due to an injury picked up in training.

Ghana kick off the Wafu campaign against Gambia in a Zone A playoff on Saturday.

The match winner join seven others for the group stage of the competition.

It is make or break for Konadu who failed to qualify the side for next year's African Nations Championship to be hosted by Kenya.
