Finn Harps sign former Partick Thistle midfielder McAleer

Finn Harps have completed the signing of Caolan McAleer ahead of the 2017 League of Ireland season.

The 23-year-old midfielder had been out of contract following his departure from Scottish side Greenock Morton and Harps manager Ollie Horgan is pleased to have secured the services of the former Northern Ireland youth international.

"Caolan plays mostly in a wide right midfield role so we’re glad to get him in as it’s a position that needed to be filled," Horgan told the club's official website.

"I would be very hopeful that his experience in Scotland will make him a key signing for us in the coming season."

Prior to signing for Harps, McAleer had been on trial with the Donegal side's near rivals Derry City, playing in a pre-season friendly game against Letterkenny Rovers.

The Tyrone native began his career at Linfield before moving to Partick Thistle in 2012, where he spent two and a half years. McAleer subsequently played for East Fife, Airdrieonians and Greenock Morton following his departure from Partick Thistle.

The midfielder is the latest new signing at Finn Park, following Jonny Bonner, Killian Cantwell, Danny Morrissey and Harry Doherty in joining the club.
