Erick Kapaito pocketed a cool Sh1.8 million after the Kariobangi Sharks striker dominated the annual KPL Awards on Thursday with three top awards.

Kapaito crowned the evening with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title to add to the Golden Boot, that came with Sh500,000 prize and the new Player of the Year, for whom he was awarded Sh200,000. 

With the MVP winner taking home a cool one million and having also snatched additional Sh75,000 for finishing as the first runners-up in the Fair Play Player of the Year category, the reigning KPL top scorer, who was escorted to the podium by his girlfriend, to deliver the victory speech, went home with Sh1,775,000.

The other big winner of the night was Bandari goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo who pocketed a half a million for scooping the Golden Glove. Farouk beat former Tusker goalkeeper, Patrick Matasi and Sony Sugar’s Kevin Omondi, who took home Sh300, 000 and Sh200,000 respectively.

Congolese Felly Mulumba, who beat Titus Echesa (Posta Rangers) and Ulinzi Stars’ Oliver Ruto to the defender of the year, went home with Sh300,000.

Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr was awarded Sh300,000 cheque for winning the Coach of the year ahead of Dunstan Nyaudo and John Baraza of Ulinzi Stars and Sofapaka respectively.

Referee Davies Omweno reaped Sh200,000 for his outstanding performance through the season while Mathare United team manager Vincent Okello walked home with Sh100,000.
