East Bengal kick start their Calcutta Football League campaign on Saturday, August 12th. They face newly promoted Rainbow in the very first match.

The Red and Gold brigade are the defending champions of the tournament and will be eyeing an eighth consecutive CFL title to further increase their trophy tally in this tournament. For the record, they have won the competition 38 times, the most by any team.

Pre-season friendly: Rainbow FC 1-1 East Bengal

A new look East Bengal side with a new coach at the helm of affairs will take to the field this Saturday. I-League winning coach Khalid Jamil has taken charge of the team this season.

The team looks good on paper with a mixture of youth and experience. They have recruited several youngsters from around the country as they gear up for a crucial season.

Aizawl FC’s midfield marshall last season, Mahmoud Al Amna, has also joined the ranks and he will be the guiding force from central midfield this season.

East Bengal played two practice matches during pre-season. While they thrashed Kalighat M.S 4-1 in the first game, they were held to a 1-1 draw by the same Rainbow FC side that they will face in the season opener.

Squad and Team News:

East Bengal will miss the services of 4 players - Arnab Mondal, Mohammed Rafique, Nikhil Poojary and Salam Ranjan Singh - who will be with the senior Indian squad in Mumbai.

They are likely to avail the services of all three foreigners they have signed in the first few rounds. Post that, Trinidad and Tobago duo Willis Plaza and Carlyle Mitchell will leave for international duties.
