Thamsanqa Sangweni in action for Chippa United

Cape Town City join the race for Sangweni, Bidvest Wits confirm Claasen signing

Chippa United midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni has been heavily linked with a move to Bidvest Wits.

The midfielder has been one of Chippa’s most outstanding performers in recent seasons, but a move away from the Eastern Cape club seems likely after Wits’ coach Gavin Hunt confirmed that Sangweni has been training with the team since Wednesday.

However, with negotiations still ongoing and Chippa CEO Peter Koutroulis believed to be in Johannesburg as he discusses the potential of a move for the player, reports have emerged that Cape Town City are the latest club to join the race for the 28-year-old.

According to the latest reports, the Citizens are keen on roping in Sangweni as they look to reinforce their midfield ahead of the new season, and they have made their interest in the player known to the Chilli Boys management.

Meanwhile, Wits have announced the signing of Daylon Claasen, who reported for training on Thursday morning.

Claasen joins the Students on a free transfer, and he will be expected to fill the void left by Mogakolodi Ngele in the middle of the park.
