CAFCC Group A review: Raja scare Aduana at home as Vita dispatch Asec

AS Vita Club of Congo DR and Morocco’s Raja Casablanca emerged the happy sides when matchday two of the Caf Confederation Cup Group A took centre stage on Wednesday.

While Vita beat Asec Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire to claim their first win of the campaign, Ghana’s Aduana Stars were left crestfallen at home following a stalemate with Raja.

Aduana Stars failed to make the most of their home advantage as they were held by Raja Casablanca of Morocco to a 3-3 stalemate in Dormaa.

But for Nathaniel Asamoah’s late equalizer, the outcome could have been worse for the Fire Boys, who succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against Asec on matchday one.

Mahmoud Benhalib opened the scoring for the visitors in the 11^th minute when he beat an offside trap to put his side 1-0 up.

Congolese import Oba Ikama, however, restored parity for Aduana 10 minutes later, only to see Lema Mabidi reinstate Raja’s lead in the 38^th minute.

Four minutes after recess, the home side leveled things once again, this time through, Caleb Amankwah’s header.

And just when Aduana looked like taking the lead for the first time, Benhalib silenced the crowd with another finish, which looked like the match winner until substitute Asamoah put the ball at the back of the net in stoppage time to spare the Fire Boys’ blushes.

The result leaves Aduana bottom of the table with a point ahead of July’s visit of Vita.

Raja, on the other hand, move to third on the table.

AS Vita Club 3-1 Asec Mimosas

Vita Club sit top of the ladder following a 3-1 home triumph over Asec at Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa.

It was, however, the away side who opened the scoring in the 19^th minute when Gbagnon Anicet Badie converted from the spot.

With no further goals in the first half, Vita had to wait until three minutes after recess to draw level as Emmanuel Ngudikama netted to make it 1-1.

Ngudikama wasn’t done just yet as he found the back of the net once again to put the Black Dolphins in the lead for the first time.

Thirteen minutes later, Ngonda Muzinga doubled Vita’s lead with a cool finish to secure all three points on home soil.

While the Congolese sit top of table, Asec, who held the first position after matchday one, have fallen to second spot.
