Caf Confederation Cup Group B review: Alain Traore fires RSB Berkane to top spot with win over Songo

Former Monaco forward Alain Traore continued with his rich vein of scoring, netting as RSB Berkane edged visiting UD Songo 2-1 to top the Group B standings.

The Burkinabe international scored his second goal in as many continental matches, having found the back of the net on his debut in the 2-0 win over Al Hilal away last week.

Nonetheless, Traore continued his fine start in Berkane colours with another strike on Wednesday.

Berkane finished the group campaign with 13 points, one point ahead of second-placed Al Masry. Traore struck as early as the fifth minute of the game.

But Mozambican outfit Songo replied through Jimmy who had been set up by former Orlando Pirates forward Helder Pelembe just two minutes into the second half.

Substitute Mohammed Farehane then sealed matters for Berkane with 20 minutes remaining as the Moroccans held on for a win.

In the night's other Group B action, Al Masry beat Al Hilal at home in Port Said, but that was not enough to secure a place at the top.

Mohamed Grendo scored his second goal of the campaign to hand Al Masry the lead after 20 minutes, before defender Mostafa Ali doubled his side's advantage on 67 minutes.

Although, they completed their group campaign unbeaten, Al Masry still finished a point behind leaders Berkane whom they beat on Matchday 4.

Wednesday’s matches marked a sorry ending for Songo and Sudanese giants Al Hilal who finished the campaign winless.
