Brazil must stop Cavani and Suarez - former Selecao great Juan

GOAL EXCLUSIVE - Raisa Simplicio

Over 100 years after their first meeting, Brazil and Uruguay will go head-to-head for the 76th time on Friday as the Brasil Global Tour takes a genuine classic to the Emirates Stadium, London.

There have been countless historic encounters between the two sides, from World Cup deciders to Copa America finals.

And former Selecao star Juan recalled a few when he sat down with Brasil Global Tour ahead of this latest instalment of this international football mega-fixture.

"I remember a game when we went to the Centenario in 2009 after not having won there for 30 years – and we won 4-0!” Juan told Brasil Global Tour.

“I scored the first goal and it was a remarkable victory for Brazil.

The 39-year-old Flamengo defender, who at the end of the year is preparing to hang up his boots and call time on his decorated career, doubts the Selecao will have it that easy this week, however.

"Uruguay are in good form and they have managed to renew their aging side with players performing at a very high level in Europe,” he said. “This will be a great test for Brazil, just like Argentina was last month.

And Juan went on to warn the Selecao defence that they will face two of the best in the business in the form of Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez. Stopping them, he says, will be key.

"They are two players who have played together for a long time. They know each other so well and are very good strong strikers.

“It will be a great challenge, especially trying not to let them get the ball in dangerous positions.”
