The Black Stars will have their winning bonuses slashed by half despite a huge win over Ethiopia in the Afcon qualifiers on Sunday

Ghana's deputy youth and sports minister, Pius Enam Hadzide, has confirmed that the Black Stars will receive 50 per cent of their previous winning bonus despite a 5-0 victory over Ethiopia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Sunday.

Each player was previously paid $10,000 as a win bonus in qualifying games.

However, an insurance package has been introduced to compensate for the 50% cut.

“Government will pay an amount of $5000 to the Black Stars for all the Afcon qualifying matches, and Fifa World Cup qualifying matches excluding that of World Cup tournament matches since that will be announce later,” Hadzide said.

“Notwithstanding, government will later announce a special comprehensive package which will include insurance of the players, welfare, per-diem and allowances.

“All stakeholders especially the media should cooperate and understand the current difficult economic conditions of the country,” he added.

Ghana top Group F of the 2019 Afcon qualifiers, tied on the same points with Sierra Leone, who defeated Kenya 2-1.
