Orlando Pirates  need to return to winning ways as soon as possible if they are to mount a serious challenge for the PSL title, but facing Black Leopards away from home will not be easy.

The Soweto giants go into this clash on the back of three successive defeats in all competitions, and something has to give at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday.

Micho Sredojevic's tactics and team selection have been questioned by the club fans, but the players have also not been doing enough to win matches.

Leopards have had problems in defence after letting opponents off the hook a few times, but they will draw inspiration from their previous match where they rallied to force a 2-2 draw away to Chippa United

They would be disappointed though that this clash will not take place at the Thohoyandou Stadium, which was approved to host PSL matches just last week.

The league turned down the club's request to have this encounter moved to Thohoyandou where Leopards won 11 of their 15 National First Division matches last season.

Squads & Team News

Position Missing players
Goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo (injured)
Midfielder Musa Nyatama (injured)
Striker Augustine Mulenga (injured)

Musa Nyatama is struggling to shake off an injury which made him miss the clash against Bloemfotein Celtic last week, meaning that Sredojevic may again be forced to do battle without the central midfielder.

Goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo is a few weeks away from full recovery, and in his absence, either Siyabonga Mpontshane or Jackson Mabokgwane could be given the responsibility to lead from the back.

Sredojevic's biggest headache will be the absence of Augustine Mulenga, who is nursing a Grade-1 strain.

His absence is a huge blow especially now that Pirates are struggling to convert their chances into goals.

Some good news though is that Luvuyo Memela and Thabo Qalinge have been training with the first team after recovering from their respective injuries.

Potential Pirates XI: Mpontshane; Dube, Jele, Munetsi, Maela; Motshwari, Mlambo, Pule; Lorch, Shonga, Gabuza.

Meanwhile, Leopards haven't reported any injury concerns from their camp, which could mean another possible selection headache for Masutha and his technical team.

However, the former player is likely to keep the same team that played to a 2-2 draw with Chippa United last week.

Potential Leopards XI: Afimi, Ndou, Mashoene, Munganga, Munyai, Nange, Mudau, Nene, Musonda, Tshepe, Khutlang.

Match Preview

With two defeats, a draw and a single win in their opening four league games, Pirates are experiencing their worst start to a PSL season since the 2015/16 when they ended up finishing seventh on the log.

What's worrying is the fact that they haven't been scoring enough goals despite bolstering their playing personnel and technical team in the off-season.

The Soweto giants have managed to find the back of the net twice in four matches while conceding three goals in the process.

They are currently sitting ninth on the log with just four points, but a win over Leopards can take them to third for the time being with the rest of the PSL teams only in action on Wednesday.

Leopards have had a good start to the season as they are unbeaten in their first three league matches. They have collected five points from the three matches (one win and two draws).

Masutha's men have been scoring goals (five in three games), but the coach needs to work on his defence which has conceded four goals already this season.

Lidoda Duvha will have to be wary of a wounded Pirates side that's expected to throw everything at them to avoid further criticism from the club supporters.

In head-to-head stats, the two teams have met four times in recent years with Pirates winning all four matches.
