Bafana Bafana coach Broos' ultimatum to meet PSL coaches: ‘It is finished because I am not a fool'

• Failed meeting with PSL coaches had left Broos angry
• Belgian is highly critical of the quality of the PSL
• Feels low PSL standards affect national team

WHAT HAPPENED? The Belgian wanted to meet PSL coaches for a brainstorming session last season but that failed after the league did not extend his invite to his counterparts. This left Broos angry as he felt local coaches were not ready to work with him. Since then, his relationship with his colleagues appear strained and he is famous for blasting the quality of the domestic league. That was worsened after he was denied entry into Orlando Stadium while on a player scouting mission. The Bafana Bafana coach is, however, still keen to meet PSL coaches and says if that fails in November, he will give up.

WHAT THEY SAID: “You know the story about the meeting with PSL coaches; already it has been one year I have been trying to see them and every time it is the league who said, 'No',” said Broos as per Times Live.

“You know the story of what happened in December [2021]; they didn’t even send my letter to the clubs. I was disappointed that I didn’t have an answer from the coaches but they didn’t receive my letter.

“So, everybody knows that story here and it is not my fault that I can’t see the coaches. I will try again now for the last time in November and if I can’t succeed to this meeting with the coaches then it is finished.

“I will not even organise one [after that]. It is finished because I am not a fool. Last year in August was the first time I wanted to see the coaches and I was one month into the job here.

“This is the last time; if I don’t succeed in November then it is finished. You must go to the league and ask why, not to me, because you always ask me and you know the story.

“You know and why do you ask me? Just go and ask the league, maybe, why I can’t see the coaches.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Perhaps Broos has a system play he feels PSL teams should adopt and could be keen on making suggestions. It’s normal around the world that a national team coach has a relationship with club coaches and they work together.
