Asamoah impresses Spalletti in Inter Milan friendly

The Nerazzurri boss shared his thoughts on the 29-year-old's performance in Saturday's game

Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti has praised Kwadwo Asamoah's performance in midfield in Saturday's pre-season friendly against Russian outfit Zenit St Petersburg.

Largely deployed at left-back or left-wing-back at former club Juventus, the Ghana international, who joined the Nerazzurri earlier this month, was deployed at the centre of the park in his second game for his new side.

He lasted for 77 minutes in what ended a 3-3 stalemate.

"He [Asamoah] got on very well in that role even though he hadn’t played there for some time," Spalletti said.

"At Udinese [from where he moved to Juventus], he often played wider in midfield while at Juventus he played at full-back above all else."

Aside from Asamoah's individual display, Spalletti appears pleased with Inter's overall performance on the day.

"We did much better compared to the last match [2-0 defeat to Swiss side Sion], both on a tactical and physical level," the Italian coach said.

"The team was far more compact, it understood when to attack and when to wait. We did our work in the right way.

"Our mentality must always be one where we look to go and score goals, especially in these games which are useful as you look to find a rhythm.

"At this time, there’s no point thinking too much about tactical details, not falling behind is what matters. We’re starting to move our legs again and this is also vitally important for the players mentally."

Asamoah will be hoping to get another run-out when Inter face English club Sheffield United in their next friendly on Tuesday.
