Both sides are looking for a positive end to a difficult year but we think there will be few goals when they meet at the Estadio Mario Kempes

Argentina's final two matches of a turbulent 2018 see them host Mexico twice, first in the city of Cordoba and four days later in the city of Mendoza.

It is without doubt a time of transition for La Albiceleste with figures like Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi not currently featuring in the squad.

Mexico are also in a state of flux, with Ricardo Ferretti in caretaker charge of the side as they look for a new permanent manager following Juan Carlos Osorio's departure in the summer.

Latest odds

Mexico have lost five of their last six matches in all competitions and bet365 price them at 5/1 (6.00) for a win in Cordoba. Argentina meanwhile are available at 6/10 (1.60) with the draw at 27/10 (3.70).

Team news

As well as the number of big names who are no longer featuring in the international set-up, Argentina are also missing defender Nicolas Otamendi who has pulled out of the squad through injury.

Mexico are without star winger Hirving Lozano, who has pulled out of the squad for both these matches with a knee problem.

Preview

Despite possessing an enormously talented group of attacking players, Argentina have consistently struggled to score goals against quality opposition over the last couple of years.

Only Bolivia scored fewer goals than them In World Cup qualifying and whilst they have enjoyed comfortable friendly wins against Guatemala and Iraq since the tournament, Argentina have failed to score against more competitive opponents Colombia and Brazil.

Mexico too have had some troubles in the final third, drawing two blanks in two of their four friendlies and opposing a high scoring game in Cordoba makes plenty of sense.

Tips and predictions

Under 2.5 goals is offered at 7/10 (1.70) but combining that selection with both teams to score 'no' gives a more appealing price of 21/20 (2.05). This selection has paid out in eight of Mexico's last 11 friendlies, and in two of Argentina's last three non-competitive games.
