'Allegri better than Conte' - Gentile prefers current Juve boss to ex-coach now at Chelsea

The Blues may be top of the Premier League, but the man who succeeded him in Turin is considered to be doing a fine job with the Serie A champions

Antonio Conte is impressing at Chelsea but Massimiliano Allegri is doing a better job at Juventus, according to Italy legend Claudio Gentile.

The Turin giants were forced into a managerial change back in 2014 when the Italian national side came calling.

Conte was lured away to take charge of his country, with former Milan boss Allegri filling his shoes.

Allegri intends to stay at Juventus

Success has continued to flow for the Bianconeri, with another era of domestic dominance being enjoyed.

Conte has moved on to try and piece something similar together in England at Stamford Bridge, but his successor back in his homeland is considered to be a finer coach.

“Allegri is doing much more than Conte did for Juventus,” 1982 World Cup winner Gentile told TMW Radio.

“What really counts are the results. I don’t understand why people continue to prefer Conte to Allegri. If he was to leave Juve, he’d go to a big club, whether foreign or Italian.”

Despite his success, Allegri is yet to convince some sceptics within the Juve support that he is the right man for the job.

He does, however, have the club well on course for another Serie A title, while a heavyweight clash with Barcelona awaits in the last eight of the Champions League.

Is Pirlo set to join Chelsea?

“It certainly won’t be easy against Barcelona in the quarter-final, but the important thing is that they don’t concede in the first leg,” said Gentile.

“Juve are really eager to defy the odds and do something exceptional. I have hope.”

Allegri has Juve six points clear at the top of Serie A, while Conte and Chelsea boast a seven-point advantage at the Premier League summit.
