Marc Albrighton has debunked claim that Leicester City players are angry with Riyad Mahrez after the Algeria winger tried to force a move away from the King Power Stadium.

Mahrez handed in a transfer request as he wanted to join Manchester City in the January transfer window. But a deal failed to materialise, with the Foxes holding out for a higher price than the Citizens were offering.

Consequently, the winger embarked on a self-imposed strike and had missed several training sessions and two games including Leicester’s 1-1 draw with Swansea City on Saturday.

Despite the attitude of the former Le Havre player, the English footballer has discredited report that the rest of the squad are angry with the forward.

“Obviously the media isn’t helping matters but, as far as we’re concerned, everybody that’s been involved, whether it’s from the bench or in the starting line-up, has trained fantastically and that’s all we can do,” said Albrighton.

“We saw this before from when Claudio [Ranieri] was relieved of his duties last season, stories will get made up. They’re far from the truth and we just have to deal with it.

“We can’t come out and argue with anyone, we just have to get on with our football and do our job.

“I’ve seen a few stories saying the players were angry and it’s far from the truth.

“I think any time if there’s stuff going on off the pitch it doesn’t help matters.”
