The Cranes have released an initial list which will be whittled down to 23

Uganda have announced a 40-man provisional team for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Gabon.

The Cranes are set to compete at the continental showpiece for the first time in 39 years.

Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic's list has a host of familiar faces including Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango, former Asante Kotoko defender Joseph Ochaya, Iceland-based Tonny Mawejje and Standard Liege youngster Faruku Miya.

"We have announced squad of 40 players - five goalkeepers, 12 defenders, 15 midfielders and eight strikers that will compete for 23 places to Gabon," Sredojevic said, as reported by the federation's official website.

"We selected a blend of experience and youth who are the future of Ugandan football.
