Espanyol fine Ghana's Mubarak Wakaso 10,000 Euros for going Awol

The Ghana midfielder was fined for failure to join the Spanish outfit on time after an international assignment in South Africa

Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has been fined 10,000 Euros by Spanish La Liga side Espanyol after failing to report to the club on time from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ghanaian midfielder incurred the wrath of the Spanish La Liga side after going AWOL following a successful stint in Africa's biggest football fiesta.

Wakaso was with Ghana's team for the 2013 Afcon for over a month and failed to beat the deadline of Wednesday, February 13, 2013.

The 22-year-old arrived in Spain and said his delay was due to a fever he suffered.

His coach Javier Aguirre was not convinced with the excuse and asked him to train alone and has since not joined the first team.

Wakaso scored four goals at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, which happened to be his debut.
