Asante Kotoko defender Rashid Sumaila could not make it in Ghana’s final 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as reported by Ghana early on today.

Officials of the Porcupine Warriors have confirmed to Ghana, Black Stars officials have notified them about the decision to leave the local guardsman out as the west Africans hope for a fifth continental title.

Coach Kwesi Appiah had his job made easier for him since Olympique Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew and Yahaya Mohammed of Amidaus Professionals had already dropped from the provisional 26-man squad as a result of injury.

Appiah was left with no choice than sacrifice one of his numerous defenders, and had to choose Maritzburg’s Awal Mohammed over the local player since the former fits well into every department of defence.
