New Edubiase’s Sekyi Quaye: MTN FA Cup win is the start of good things to come

The midfielder has served notice the new season will see a better side of them after having won the knockout competition for the first time without conceding a goal
New Edubiase impressive midfielder Sekyi Quaye has been full of praise for his team-mates following their maiden FA Cup victory on Sunday against favourites Ashantigold.

The Bekwai-based club clinched their major title since joining the Ghana Premier League after a 1-0 win over the Miners at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The game had to be rescheduled to Sunday following the death of President John Evans Atta Mills on July 24.

Quaye told Ghana the win is just signs of positive things to come in the new season as they also prepare to face giants Asante Kotoko in the Super Cup before the season starts on October 7.

"It's hard to put it into words. I am delighted to make history with New Edubiase and thanks to God it was our day,” the 22-year-old said. “I hope there will be many more days like this ahead, but for now I will just enjoy this success.”

Quaye added: “We have worked hard and overcome difficulties, it was a tough match and we came through. Whatever happens now, we earned this as a team and that makes me very proud.

“I'm very happy with how I played, it is a great feeling to succeed on the big stage. This team is young, but we have a lot of talent. People are paying attention to us and we are showing what we can do. I hope this is the start of good things for me and others in the team. Ashgold were great opponents, but we have come through and surprised a few people. I couldn't be happier this evening.”
