Waris backs relegated Valenciennes to make quick Ligue 1 return

The 22-year-old is hopeful Valenciennes will make a swift return to the French top-flight as he leaves for his mother club Spartak Moscow

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris has backed relegated French Ligue 1 side Valenciennes to make a quick return to the elite competition as he prepares to play his final match this weekend.

The 22-year-old joined Valenciennes in January from Russian side Spartak Moscow for a short term loan deal.

The former Hacken player excelled during his stay though his efforts were not enough to rescue Valenciennes from relegation.

Waris has scored nine goals in 16 appearances ahead of their final match with Toulouse this weekend.

"I wish I could stay longer, but I know for sure they are coming back to the Ligue 1 next season," the Right to Dream Academy product revealed via his twitter handle.

He has been included in Ghana’s provisional 26-man squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
