Ghana win 2013 Wafu Cup after edging past Senegal 3-1

Maxwell Konadu’s men were crowned champions of the 2013 Wafu cup following an impressive win over the Terenga Lions of Senegal

Ghana won the GoTV Wafu Cup on Thursday after downing Senegal 3-1 in the grand finale at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Maxwell Konadu’s men drew the first the blood through a Kwabena Edusei spot kick before Roger Gomis restored parity for Senegal who were unbeaten prior to the final match.

Both teams went into recess tied up on the scoreline but the Black Stars came back stronger after scoring two more goals to put the fight beyond the Teranga Lions.

Latif Mohammed got the second goal before Edusei grabbed his brace to hand Ghana a valuable victory.

Ghana’s success comes as good news for the technical handlers who are bent on snatching next year's African Nations Championship title in South Africa.

Meanhwile, in the third place play-off, former champions, Togo beat Benin 2-1 to settle for Bronze.

Only players plying their trades in their domestic league were eligible to play in the Wafu Cup.
