Ghana defender Vandam excels with Mechelen in pre-season game

The towering defender was outstanding in his first major pre-season game for his new club as they won by eight goals to nil
French-born Ghanaian defender Jerry Vandam was in fantastic form for his new club KV Mechelen in the Belgian Jupiler League in his first pre-season game as they walloped SK Kampenhout 8-0.

The 24-year-old centre back, who signed a three-year deal with the Malinois, lasted for 75th minute in the game, and put up a fine display.

Vandam spent the 2011-12 season on loan at Caen and played very well but failed to break into the starting line up of his parent club Lille on his return.

Mechelen coach Harm Van Veldhoven is said to be happy about the output of his new signing and hopes he will put up the same performance for the club when the new season begins.

The gangling centre back, who was born in Lille to Ghanaian parents, is yet to be capped at any level by either Ghana or France though he has expressed deep interest in playing for the Black Stars.
