Ramsey 'inspirational' for Wales team-mate Collison

The West Ham midfielder is hoping to emulate the in-form Gunners man after recovering from a serious knee injury, while also giving his backing to Hammers boss Sam Allardyce

Jack Collison has hailed the form of Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey after recovering from a serious knee injury to return to the West Ham fold.

The midfielder was forced out of action for seven months ahead of the 2012-13 season but is back in Sam Allardyce's first-team plans after a short loan spell at Championship side Bournemouth.

And Collison, who played the full 90 minutes as West Ham stunned Tottenham at White Hart Lane for the second time in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday, has drawn inspiration from his Wales team-mate's own injury nightmare.

"There’s never been a doubt about Aaron Ramsey’s talent," Collison told Goal at an EA Sports FIFA 14 event. "You look back to when he was 17, when he was playing in the first team at Cardiff, for the Under-21s with Wales – he was playing great stuff then. There was no doubt then he was going to go on to fantastic player.

"Moving to Arsenal, he started to do well, then picked up his injury. This season it seems like he’s got his confidence back, the goals are coming and obviously he’s playing in a fantastic team week in and week out.

"It’s great to see him doing so well and as a fellow Welsh player, it’s even more exciting to see and when we finally do meet up with Wales again he has continued it on there, so he’s definitely inspirational for me."

Collison has also praised the backroom staff at West Ham for helping him recover from a long injury lay-off.

He added: "It’s massive [for someone who’s had an injury like us] to have that support around you. From a personal point of view, I’ve been blessed with the medical team here, [who] have gone out their way to give me every opportunity to make sure each time I come back fitter and stronger.

"I’ve had my fair share – my problems have normally centred around my knee - but right now I feel fit, healthy and strong and any opportunity I’m given I’m going to give my best and enjoy playing my football."

West Ham sit 17th in the Premier League table, a single point above the relegation zone, having won just two of their last 10 games in the competition.

But Collison says the Hammers squad are fully behind Allardyce and believes he is the man to change fortunes at Upton Park.

"The manager’s a very experienced man and he’s worked with some of us players now for over two-and-a-half years.

"We know how he is, everyone believes in what we’re trying to achieve here and everyone knows how important it is to get the three points and then knuckle on and pick up as many points as we can over December."
