Irina camp blames 'work commitments' for Ronaldo split rumours

The absence of Cristiano's girlfriend from the Ballon d'Or ceremony has been explained by her representatives after rumours claimed the pair had split
Irina Shayk's PR company has explained the model's absence from Monday's Ballon d'Or ceremony was due to "work commitments" amid suggestions she has split from boyfriend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo won the prestigious prize in Zurich on Monday, but this time there was no Irina by his side as he celebrated claiming the award for the third time in his career.

Reports on Wednesday then suggested the Russian model had unfollowed the Real Madrid forward on Twitter, fuelling speculation of a split.

But Shayk has never followed Ronaldo on Twitter or on any of her social media accounts and a spokeswoman at Irina's New York-based PR company told Goal: "[The Ballon d'Or] didn't fit in with her schedule - it was because of work commitments. We have no further comment to make."

Irina was in the Maldives on holiday in the lead-up to the ceremony in Zurich and the model has been quiet on social media since Ronaldo's Ballon d'Or win, having posted her last holiday picture on Instagram on the day of the gala itself.

With rumours intensifying of a split, fans of Cristiano have bombarded the model's accounts with messages over the last few hours.

The pair have been together since January 2010.
