Commentary

Thank you for joining our coverage, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until next time, goodbye!
Valencia travel to face Eibar next, while Atletico host Bayern Munich in the Champions League before welcoming Real Valladolid to the Wanda Metropolitano in LaLiga action.
There goes the full-time whistle! Atletico earn a narrow victory courtesy of a second-half own-goal from Lato - the first time they've won a league game through a second-half goal this season - to extend their winning run to six LaLiga games. The match looked poised to end level as Atletico struggled to break their hosts down, but the Valencia left-back inadvertently diverted Carrasco's low cross into his own net and Simeone's men are now level on points with a game in hand on league leaders Real Sociedad. It finishes 1-0 to Atletico at the Mestalla!
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: VALENCIA 0-1 ATLETICO MADRID
90' + 2' There's certainly no lack of effort from Valencia but they haven't managed to trouble Oblak at all since going behind. Atletico look set to see this one out.
90' Valencia have just four minutes of added time to grab their equaliser. Atletico are comfortable in their low block, however, and won't be easy to break down. This is their bread and butter.
88' A succession of fouls disrupts the flow of the game as Atletico try to make it a scrappy affair in the closing stages.
86' Valencia are pushing forward now, but they can't get a firm foothold on proceedings. They are forcing Atleico back, however.
Jason
D. Wass
84' Wass is now off as Gracia makes a late change to try and grab an equaliser, with Jason replacing him.
Koke
Yellow Card
83' Koke is the latest player to go into the book, and he might count himself lucky to be getting away with just a yellow. He swings for a bouncing ball as he tussles with Correia, but catches the Valencia substitute in the face with his boot! There was no intention, however, which is likely the reason he wasn't sent off.
João Félix
Yellow Card
81' Felix picks up a yellow card for knocking the ball out of Correia's hands as he tried to take a quick throw.
Toni Lato
Own Goal
79' OWN-GOAL!! ATLETICO ARE FINALLY IN FRONT!! Carrasco is played in down the left and he shifts quickly away from Soler before fizzing a low ball across the face of goal. It somehow evades Vitolo, a couple of yards out, with Mangala tight to him, but the cross ricochets off Lato and trickles in at the back post! It's 1-0 to Atletico Madrid!
Llorente
Yellow Card
76' Llorente protests his innocence, but the referee has made his mind up and books the midfielder for handball.
74' The stoppages for substitutions have disrupted the flow of the game slightly, with the following minutes a little disjointed from both sides.
Thierry Correia
Y. Musah
71' Youngster Musah is the third player to be replaced, with Correia the final pair of fresh legs tasked with earning all three points in the closing stages - or preserving the one they have.
Sobrino
Manu Vallejo
71' Vallejo also comes off, with Sobrino partnering Gameiro in attack.
K. Gameiro
M. Gómez
70' Gracia makes a triple-substitution now as he looks to snatch a late winner. Gomez is the first man to be replaced, with Gameiro coming on up front in his place.
67' There's a clash of heads between Gimenez and Wass as a free-kick comes into the Valencia box, causing the game to be stopped. Both appear to be fine, thankfully, and will stay on the field.
G. Kondogbia
T. Lemar
65' Lemar is also, surprisingly, being taken off, with Kondogbia coming on for him. Llorente will return to a wider role as the substitute slots into midfield alongside Koke.
Vitolo
Á. Correa
65' That shot is Correa's last involvement for the day, with Vitolo coming on to replace him.
64' SAVE! Felix slides in to win the ball on the edge of the Valencia box and Carrasco picks up the pieces. He drives inside before slipping it wide for Correa, who jinks into the area, cuts inside and shoots, but he doesn't catch it cleanly and Domenech holds on!
Á. Correa
Yellow Card
62' Correa goes into the book now for stopping a Valencia counter by catching the heels of Guedes as he sprinted away.
Y. Carrasco
Saúl
60' Simeone makes another attacking change as he brings Saul off for Carrasco. Llorente tucks in to the middle as Carrasco goes onto the left wing, allowing Lemar to switch back to the right.
59' OVER! Felix gets into the box on the left and goes for the top-right corner, but he gets under his effort and spoons it over the bar!
E. Mangala
Hugo Guillamón
57' Guillamon hasn't been able to shake off that injury and will have to be replaced at the back by Mangala.
Hugo Guillamón
Yellow Card
57' Guillamon is booked for time-wasting as he takes an age to be substituted off. The defender trudges off as slowly as he possibly can, much to the frustration of the Atletico players.
55' Guillamon slid in bravely behind Wass in an attempt to block Lemar's shot and appears to have hurt himself in the process. He looks like he will try to run it off but he's moving very gingerly.
54' BLOCK! How are Atletico not in front?! Llorente charges down the right and fires a low ball across goal that Domenech gets a hand to. It comes out to Lemar, unmarked, who steers the ball goalwards with Domenech out of position, but Wass does superbly to block it away!
52' Valencia are defending very deep and there's very little space in behind the back four. Twice Atletico have tried to slip a runner in and twice the ball has been shepherded out of play for a goal-kick.
50' Lemar, who was so bright on the right wing at the end of the first half, is now back on the left to provide width due to the change of shape. There's an onus on Felix and Correa to shoulder some of the creative burden now.
48' Atletico Madrid are the only LaLiga side this season that have failed to collect a single point courtesy of a goal scored in the second half. Can they end that run and take all three points today?
46' We're back underway for the second half!
João Félix
Renan Lodi
46' There's a half-time change from Simeone as Lodi comes off for Felix as the Argentine reverts to a 4-4-2. Hermoso is forced to shuffle wide and fill in at left-back in Lodi's absence.
Simeone will be concerned with the length of time it took his side to get going, but the decision to move Lemar to the right flank seemed to provide his team with the spark they were missing. Valencia will have to come up with a way to deal with the Frenchman in the second half, or Domenech will be a very busy man indeed.
There goes the half-time whistle! After a slow start to proceedings, Atletico finally found their rhythm just before half time, but Valencia goalkeeper Domenech made a couple of fine saves to deny Lemar and Correa. The break comes at a bad time for the visitors, who were just starting to pile the pressure on, but they still have it all to do in the second half. It's 0-0 at half-time.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: VALENCIA 0-0 ATLETICO MADRID
45' WIDE! Atletico have ramped the pressure up in the last few minutes. Correa has the ball just inside the box, but elects not to shoot and finds Lemar instead. The Frenchman squares to Llorente in the middle, who shifts the ball onto his weaker left foot and thumps an effort at goal, but he sends it just wide of the post!
Saúl
Yellow Card
43' Saul is booked for a cynical challenge as he prevented a Valencia counter-attack with a foul on Vallejo.
42' SAVE! Domenech denies Atletico again! Correa gets beyond his man on the right and drives a low effort across goal, but the Valencia keeper is down sharply to parry and the ball is eventually cleared!
40' OVER! A corner from the right finds its way to Gimenez on the penalty spot, but the defender can't get over the ball and steers his shot over the bar!
38' SAVE! Lemar - who has looked dangerous since switching to the right flank - drives purposefully inside from the wing, working the ball to the edge of the box before firing a lovely effort towards the bottom-left corner, but Domenech is there once again to tip it round the post! That's another fine, diving save from the Valencia goalkeeper.
36' NO PENALTY! Atletico work the ball down the left and it's fired across the face of goal where Correa attacks it before going down. He claims to have been impeded, but the referee isn't interested!
34' Lemar twists and turns and draws Soler into a foul in the Valencia half, but the free-kick comes to nothing.
32' SAVE! Valencia win the ball in their own half and Guedes drives forward on the left, dragging his team up the field. He swings a cross in that is overhit, but Wass retrieves it and puts it back into the middle. Lemar attempts to intercept, but it comes off his head and skews goalwards, only for Oblak to hold on!
30' Atletico have hardly tested Valencia in the last 15 minutes or so. They're lacking a spark of creativity in the forward areas and the hosts look comfortable.
U. Račić
Yellow Card
28' Racic picks up the first yellow card of the game as he catches Llorente in the face with a stray arm.
27' WIDE! Musah latches onto a loose ball in the Atletico half and he thumps a low, driven strike from outside the box that fizzes just past the foot of the left-hand post!
25' The game is getting rather bogged down in midfield at the moment. Neither side has been able to keep the ball for an extended spell in the last couple of minutes.
23' SAVE! Soler scoops a lovely ball forward to the left wing, where Racic steers a strike at goal on the bounce, but Oblak reacts sharply to parry it behind at his near post!
21' WIDE! Atletico win a corner and it's floated into the box, where Valencia don't deal with it convincingly. It then drops to Gimenez in the middle, but he's lost his bearings and skews a shot well wide of the target!
19' Atletico are still on top in terms of possession but the passing still isn't quick or incisive enough. Valencia's low block is frustrating the visitors well.
17' Atletico are back on the ball now but they're largely struggling to threaten. They're a little too passive at the moment.
15' The referee pauses the game briefly to speak to Gimenez and Gabriel. The two central defenders are very animated and Gimenez, in particular, appears to be unhappy about something, but it all seems to be sorted out amicably between the pair in the end.
13' SAVE! Lemar pops up on the edge of the box and feints left before checking onto his weaker right foot. That doesn't stop him from hitting a sweet strike back across goal that Domenech has to meet at full-stretch to tip wide!
11' Guedes has looked a bright spark for Valencia on the counter. He seems confident on the ball and is moving it cleverly when he has it at his feet, committing defenders with his skill.
9' SAVE! Guedes draws a foul with some lovely, quick feet and the free-kick is in a promising position. Soler takes the shot on and catches his strike well, avoiding the wall and sending his shot towards the bottom-right corner, but Oblak is across to hold on!
7' Valencia don't deal with a left-wing cross and the ball falls to the feet of Llorente just inside the area, but he doesn't catch his shot with any venom and it trickles through for the goalkeeper to collect.
6' Atletico work a corner short and Lemar is fed on the right, just outside the box. He dwells on the ball for a moment and then goes for a quick-one-two on the edge of the area and shoots from a more central position, but it's blocked away.
4' Valencia get the ball into the final third for the first time and Gomez has a go from the edge of the area, but his shot is quickly charged down and the attack fizzles out.
3' Atletico dominate the ball in the opening minutes, with Valencia firmly camped in their area. The passing is methodical, but without a great deal of urgency at this stage.
1' We're underway at the Mestalla!
However, Atletico are unbeaten in their last 11 league games on the road and are the only LaLiga side that haven’t trailed for a single minute this season whilst Valencia have been behind for a total of 361 minutes - more than any other side in the division.
Valencia have failed to win any of their last 11 LaLiga games against Atletico Madrid, but have only lost one of their last seven league games at home. Additionally, Los Che head coach Gracia is unbeaten in his three LaLiga home games against today's opponents (W2 D1).
Atletico boss Simeone, meanwhile, makes two changes after his side were held to a 0-0 draw by Lokomotiv Moscow in the Champions League in midweek. Carrasco and Felix are replaced by Hermoso and Lemar as the Argentine moves away from his usual 4-4-2 in favour of a system with three central defenders. Atletico have a lengthy absentee list, with Diego Costa, Lucas Torreira, Hector Herrera, Luis Suarez, Sime Vrsaljko and Manu Sanchez all unavailable for selection.
Valencia head coach Javi Gracia makes four changes following his side's 2-2 draw against Alaves last time out. Gameiro and Lee drop to the bench, with Gomez and Vallejo favoured as the strike partnership today, while Denis Cheryshev and Jose Gaya miss out through Covid-19 and injury, respectively, and are replaced by Lato and Guedes.
Atletico Madrid substitutes: Ivan Saponjic, Ricard Sanchez, Joao Felix, Ivo Grbic, Felipe, Toni Moya, Yannick Carrasco, Juan Manuel Sanabria, Vitolo, Sergio Camello, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Miguel San Roman.
Atletico Madrid XI (3-4-2-1): Jan Oblak; Stefan Savic, Jose Gimenez, Mario Hermoso; Kieran Trippier, Koke, Saul Niguez, Renan Lodi; Marcos Llorente, Thomas Lemar; Angel Correa.
Valencia substitutes: Guillem Molina, Jason, Thierry Correia, Eliaquim Mangala, Cristian Rivero, Unai Etxebarria, Vicente Esquerdo, Lee Kang-In, Alex Blanco, Ruben Sobrino, Kevin Gameiro, Koba Koindredi.
Valencia XI (4-4-2): Jaume Domenech; Daniel Wass, Gabriel Paulista, Hugo Guillamon, Toni Lato; Yunus Musah, Carlos Soler, Uros Racic, Goncalo Guedes; Maxi Gomez, Manu Vallejo.
Unbeaten Atletico take on Valencia at the Mestalla as Diego Simeone's men look to continue their early title tilt after winning their last five league games in a row - another victory today would take the capital club joint-top of the table with a game in hand on Real Sociedad.
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the LaLiga clash between Valencia and Atletico Madrid at the Mestalla.
