Ruvu Shooting have moved to the fourth position on the Tanzania Mainland Table after defeating Mtibwa Sugar 2-0 at Mabatini Grounds on Saturday.

Baraka Majogoro's own goal and Frank Ikobela's calm finish helped the administrative side claim maximum points.

It was expected to be a tough outing considering the fact that Mtibwa had managed to get four points from their opponents in the 2019/20 season. They had won the first round 2-1 and drew 0-0 in the second one.

Ruvu were keen on avenging the dropped points in the previous season.

In the first half, neither of the two sides managed to get the ball in the back of the net. This was made possible owing to poor finishing by either side as well as good defending.

Even after the break, it seemed like spoils will be shared, but with 10 minutes to go, things changed.

In a desperate bid to keep the ball away from reaching the opponent, Majogoro was only able to turn it into his own net in the 80th minute.

It was a heartbreaking incident for the Sugar Millers considering the way they had defended earlier in the encounter.

Five minutes later, the hosts doubled their advantage; defender Dickson Nickson Job played a careless square ball inside his own area in search of a fellow player, but Ikobela interjected, managed to keep his cool, and slotted calmly past the custodian to ensure the team played the remaining minutes with no pressure.

The win ensures Ruvu are in the fourth position with 28 points from the 17 games they have played this season. It was their seventh win, with as many games ending in a draw while the remaining three have ended in a defeat.

Mbeya City managed to hold their visitors Kinondoni Municipal Council FC to a goalless draw in another league match played on Saturday.
