Gor Mahia have suffered a 2-1 loss away to Nzoia Sugar in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League game played at Mumias Complex on Saturday.

Gaetan Masha and Moses Mwale were the heroes for the Sugar Millers while Samuel Onyango scored the lone goal for K'Ogalo

The reigning champions came into the match as favourites considering their satisfying head-to-head record against their opponents.

Prior to Saturday's match, the two teams had met eight times in the league and the Sugar Millers had managed a single win while the Nairobi-based side had won seven.

K'Ogalo had further scored 16 goals in the process while their hosts had scored just three.

Former captain Haron Shakava started the game from the bench as coach Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto opted to start Charles Momanyi and Juma Andrew at the heart of the Gor Mahia defence, with John Macharia and Samuel Onyango also getting a starting berth.

On the other hand, experienced Peter Gin had to be content with a place on the bench for Nzoia, the same as Philip Muchuma. Kevin Juma, Ronack Otieno and Daniel Musamali were some of the faces in the starting XI.

A few people, if any, were surprised when Gor Mahia took a lead in the 20th minute through former Ulinzi Stars and Sony Sugar forward Onyango.

Despite the chances created by the teams in the first half, none managed to capitalise on them and K'Ogalo went into the half-break with the slim lead.

It took Nzoia five minutes after the break to level the scores thanks to Masha, who capitalised on a concentration lapse by the champions.

The winning goal for the Sugar Millers came with 15 minutes to go courtesy of Mwale.

The win took Nzoia to ninth on the table with 17 points, one more than K'Ogalo, who are a position lower.

Meanwhile, Vihiga United and Western Stima settled for a goalless draw in another top-tier game.
