Commentary

That's all for today, goodbye!
City will have to wait until tomorrow to see if they will be playing Brighton and Hove Albion or Manchester United in the final on the 3rd of June. Before that, their attention turns back to the title race as they host Arsenal on Wednesday in the Premier League. United's attention turns back to their promotion charge now, and they play West Brom next in the Championship.
Manchester City are through to the FA Cup final after Mahrez's hat-trick helped them beat Sheffield United 3-0. The Championship side had a good first half, almost taking the lead in the first 90 seconds, but Jebbison gave a penalty away just before half-time which Mahrez converted. City dominated the second half, and two goals in five minutes from Mahrez was enough to get the job done. He did all the work himself on his second goal, winning it back on the halfway line before picking out the bottom corner, and he swept Grealish's cross into the same spot for his third.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: MANCHESTER CITY 3-0 SHEFFIELD UNITED.
90' + 2' GREAT CHANCE! City's corner is taken short and they work it out to Palmer on the opposite flank. He breezes past Basham to fizz a dangerous low ball across the face of goal, but Foden can't get there in time to tap it past Foderingham.
90' + 1' CLOSE! Into three minutes of added time, and City almost added to their tally. Foden has space to run into but unselfishly squares it to Alvarez on the edge of the box. He drills his low shot wide of the far post.
89' Walker nudges Coulibaly off the ball, but can't pick out a cross. When United quickly move back into their shape, City decide to play it back instead of pushing for another goal.
87' City almost play themselves into trouble as United continue their high press. Akanji almost sells Lewis short with a square pass across the box, but the substitute reacts quickly to stop McBurnie from pouncing.
85' United are still making a late push for a consolation here as Bogle lifts it over the top for Basham to chase. He cuts inside but finds his route blocked by Laporte.
83' Palmer is getting a lot of joy down the left and he makes a surging run, leaving Basham behind. He has Alvarez for support in the middle, but his pullback is smothered by Bogle.
R. Lewis
Bernardo Silva
81' Fourth change for City now, and it's Lewis that's coming on for Silva.
80' Norwood nicks it off Phillips in midfield and quickly spots Basham breaking down the right. He tries to thread it into him, but Akanji reads it well and sticks out a leg to cut it out.
78' City are happy to just keep possession now, and even though they're moving it upfield, they're in no hurry to get it into the box. United can't get close to them at the moment.
I. Coulibaly
A. Ahmedhodžić
76' And Coulibaly replaces Ahmedhodzic as United switch to a back four for the rest of the game.
J. Bogle
G. Baldock
76' Baldock is also taken off, with Bogle on in his place.
C. Basham
S. Berge
75' There's a triple change for United as well. Berge is the first to go off, with Basham on for him.
K. Phillips
İ. Gündoğan
75' City's third change sees Gundogan making way for Phillips.
O. Norwood
Yellow Card
74' Norwood gets across and clumsily brings Palmer down to stop him from breaking. He's shown the first yellow card of the game.
72' Another chance for United to try and pull one back here as Baldock lifts it over the top for Sharp. He peels off the back of Laporte, but it bounces up against his arm.
70' United have a rare chance to break forward and Lowe gets away from Walker down the left to whip in a cross. Gomez misses it and it runs through to McBurnie, but he overhits it as he tries to tee up Berge.
P. Foden
E. Haaland
68' And Haaland is also making way, with Foden replacing him.
B. Sharp
J. Fleck
67' United are making their second change following that City goal. Fleck is taken off, with Sharp on in his place.
C. Palmer
J. Grealish
67' City are making a double change of their own, and Guardiola might now have one eye on the Arsenal game on Wednesday. Grealish is the first to go off for Palmer.
J. Grealish
Assist
66' It's a perfectly-weighted pass from Grealish into Mahrez, and it allows him to take the shot first time.
R. Mahrez
Goal
66' HAT-TRICK! Again, it's switched from right to left by City, and Grealish is up against Baldock as he cuts inside. He squeezes a square ball to the edge of the box where Mahrez is unmarked and he drills his third goal of the match into the same bottom corner as the other two. 3-0 City!
65' City are penning United back deeper and deeper into their own half. They're switching it from side to side and trying to open up a compact defence.
63' United are struggling to get a touch on the ball again here as City play their way out from the back. Walker tries to drive down the right, only to be brought down by Fleck.
R. Mahrez
Goal
61' MAHREZ SCORES AGAIN! Lowe loses the ball on the halfway line to Mahrez, who surges forward through the middle, with Haaland providing support on his left. He doesn't need him though as he skips past Robinson before keeping his cool and sliding it into the bottom corner. 2-0 City!
60' Berge is still showing a lot of threat down the right for United as he makes another driving run down the wing. He leaves Silva on the floor before squaring it in from the byline, but it's too close to Ortega.
O. McBurnie
D. Jebbison
58' United are making the first change of the game. Jebbison is the one to make way, with McBurnie replacing him.
56' GREAT CHANCE! Gomez finally manages to find some space down the left, but his cross takes a big deflection that sends it bouncing up nicely at the far post. Haaland races onto it, but can only poke it wide from close range.
54' Silva checks back instead of running to the byline and pulls it back to the edge of the D where Gundogan is making a late run. He drills a first-time shot on goal, but it's blocked by Akanji.
52' City are unbeaten in their last 54 games in all competitions when leading at half-time (W50 D4), since a 2-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League back in May 2021.
50' Mahrez twists and turns but can't get away from Robinson on the right of the box. So, City switch it out to Grealish on the opposite side, but he can't work open any space either.
48' City are happy to keep the pace of the game slow at the start of this half, though United are pressing them high upfield. The Citizens neatly pass their way out, but aren't in a hurry to get forward.
46' City get us back underway for the second half!
Guardiola was a frustrated figure on the touchline as his side struggled to turn their dominance into chances for the majority of the first half. He'll be looking for a way to change that in the second half. Heckingbottom can't have too many complaints about United's performance, and he'll be urging them to take any chances they do make for themselves.
Mahrez's penalty gives Manchester City a 1-0 lead over Sheffield United at the break. Arguably, United were the better side in the first half, and they almost took the lead inside 90 seconds when Ortega made a good save to deny Ndiaye following a corner. The Championship side defended well and smothered a lot of City's chances, but Jebbison gave away a penalty after catching Silva and Mahrez converted it with confidence.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER CITY 1-0 SHEFFIELD UNITED.
45' Walker is getting a lot of joy down the right, and he's left in space as he surges down the wing. He puts a dangerous cross into the six-yard box which Foderingham misses, but Alvarez can't make contact in the middle.
R. Mahrez
Penalty Goal
43' MAHREZ SCORES! He steps up to take the penalty, only having a short run-up to the ball. Foderingham dives to his right, but Mahrez angles himself so he can fire it into the bottom right corner of the net. 1-0 City!
41' PENALTY TO CITY! Gundogan's free-kick is teased into the far post to Akanji nods it down for Silva, who mishits a volley. He turns to keep hold of it before going down after getting a slight kick from Jebbison. The referee points straight to the spot, and VAR confirms the decision.
39' It's a poor clearance from Gomez straight to Baldock, who touches it through to Berge. He curls an early cross into the box which Walker pokes away from Ndiaye, and United can't get it back into the area.
37' Gundogan's throughball to Silva is quickly bundled away from him as far as Alvarez, but he has four United defenders swarming around him. A loose touch almost bounces to Haaland, but Egan takes no chances by hooking it to safety.
35' It's more great work from Berge as he shakes off his marker to drive forward down the left. He picks out Ndiaye, but Walker quickly gets across to slow him down and eventually win the ball back.
33' Mahrez swings another corner in from the left and Haaland rises highest at the back to nod it down. He can't pick out a team-mate as Berge hooks it away, but United can't keep it for long.
31' Grealish's route down the left is blocked once more, so he takes it across the length of the pitch before laying it off to Walker. He's given space again but fires his cross straight at Egan.
29' Ahmedhodzic holds off Haaland to get forward before trying to drill it forward for Ndiaye. He has three City defenders crowded around him though, and the Premier League side are straight back on the ball.
27' City win it back on the halfway line and surge forward on the counter, with Walker leading the way down the right. He squares it into Silva, and his own cross is deflected just wide of the near post.
25' Gundogan floats it over the top to Silva, who does well to keep it in at the byline. He ends up playing a one-two with Mahrez before being fouled, and the Algerian's free-kick is deflected over.
23' GOOD SAVE! United get caught high upfield, and it gives City space to work in behind. This time, they go down their left, with Alvarez curling a shot towards the far post from just outside the box, and Foderingham tips it wide.
22' CLOSE! Still, City push and Mahrez knocks it past Robinson before curling a shot towards the far post. He's claiming it took a deflection on its way wide, but a goal-kick is given.
21' Gundogan finally manages to thread it through to Alvarez, who has a slight bit of space on the right of the box. He tries a no-look pass to Haaland on his left but misses the ball and Robinson clears his lines.
19' City are piling the pressure on again here, but United are making it difficult by flooding back into their box. Gundogan tries to squeeze through but fouls Egan in the process.
17' It's a great run from Berge down the right as he outmuscles Gomez to whip in a cross. It sails over everyone, but United keep it alive as it's squared to Robinson on the edge of the box, but his shot is always heading wide.
15' Haaland goes through the back of Norwood, and it smashes against Alvarez before bouncing back to the Norwegian. The whistle goes for the foul, but it doesn't stop Haaland from spinning and drilling a very long-range shot into the net that won't count.
13' Since losing 1-0 to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup in February 2018, City have won their last 21 domestic cup ties against sides from a lower division. They've scored 78 goals in this run, conceding just 11 in return.
11' Another City attack is cut out, so Lowe tries to go for the direct route again. It's just too high for Ndiaye to flick on, and Fleck can't get there ahead of Walker.
9' City are back to keeping patient possession, and they're trying to open United up by switching it from left to right again. Silva can't get away from Robinson though, and he loses out.
7' It's a great looping ball over the top from Egan to pick out Jebbison and he helps it onto Ndiaye with a good header. The angle is against the forward, but he goes for goal anyway and hits the side netting.
6' It's worked neatly from left to right by City, but Mahrez hits his cross straight against Lowe. He tries to set Jebbison on the counter, but he's upended by Akanji before he can get far.
4' After that early scare for City, they're dominating possession and patiently working it forward. Grealish finds a pocket of space down the left, but chooses not to swing it into the box for Haaland.
2' GOOD SAVE! United win an early corner and Norwood's cross is nodded down by Egan just inside the box. Ndiaye brings it down under control with a good first touch but fires his shot straight at Ortega, who gets it away.
1' Jebbison gets the game underway for United!
The teams are out on the pitch now, with kick-off just moments away!
Sheffield United have won all four of their FA Cup ties against City, most recently a 2-1 fourth-round victory in the 2007-08 campaign.
Paul Heckingbottom makes just three changes from their win over Bristol City in midweek. Foderingham is back from a ban to start in goal, as Norwood and Jebbison are also brought in. Davies and McBurnie start on the bench. Tommy Doyle is ineligible to face his parent club, as is James McAtee.
Pep Guardiola makes six changes to the side that started against Bayern on Wednesday. Ortega starts in goal, with Walker, Laporte, Gomez, Mahrez and Alvarez also coming in. Ederson, Dias, Stones, Rodri and De Bruyne drop to the bench, while Nathan Ake misses out after picking up a hamstring injury in that game.
SHEFFIELD UNITED SUBS: Jayden Bogle, Chris Basham, Ismaila Coulibaly, Andre Brooks, Ciaran Clark, Oliver Arblaster, Oliver McBurnie, Adam Davies, Billy Sharp.
SHEFFIELD UNITED STARTING XI (3-5-2): Wes Foderingham; Anel Ahmedhodzic, John Egan, Jack Robinson; George Baldock, Sander Berge, Oliver Norwood, John Fleck, Max Lowe; Daniel Jebbison, Iliman Ndiaye.
MANCHESTER CITY SUBS: Ederson, Kalvin Phillips, Ruben Dias, Phil Foden, Rodrigo, Cole Palmer, Kevin De Bruyne, Rico Lewis, John Stones.
MANCHESTER CITY STARTING XI (4-2-3-1): Stefan Ortega; Kyle Walker, Manuel Akanji, Aymeric Laporte, Sergio Gomez; Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva; Riyad Mahrez, Julian Alvarez, Jack Grealish; Erling Haaland.
It's second in the Premier League against second in the Championship, as both sides bid to make it to the final. City are making their fifth consecutive appearance in the semi-final, but have fallen at this hurdle in the last three campaigns. They brushed aside Burnley 6-0 in the last round, and are unbeaten in their last 15 matches in all competitions (W12 D3). They also booked their place in the Champions League semi-final with a 4-1 aggregate win over Bayern Munich in midweek. United are playing their first semi-final since 2014, and haven't reached the final since 1936. A stoppage-time winner saw them beat Blackburn Rovers 3-2 in the last round, and they've lost just one of their last seven in all competitions, winning the other six.
