Commentary

That brings an end to our coverage of the Serie A fixture between Juventus and Genoa at Allianz Stadium. Thank you very much for joining us. Goodbye!
Juventus travel to Torino next time out in Serie A seeking to secure back-to-back victories. Genoa, meanwhile, host Udinese as they look to bounce back.
Following a highly competitive game, Juventus claim all three points. The home side took the lead after 36 minutes through Bonucci’s close-range header, before Kouame equalised for Genoa four minutes later. Six minutes after the break, Cassata was sent off for a second bookable offence, before Rabiot’s dismissal in the closing stages saw both sides go down to 10 men. Ronaldo thought he had won it when he turned home Cuadrado’s cross after 92 minutes, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside. Despite that, the hosts continued to press forward, and, with only two minutes left to play, Ronaldo converted from the spot after being fouled by Sanabria to secure the points.
90' + 8' FULL TIME: JUVENTUS 2-1 GENOA
Cristiano Ronaldo
Penalty Goal
90' + 6' GOAL! Ronaldo surely wins it! The experienced goalscorer steps up the take the penalty and drills it beyond Radu and into the bottom left corner. 2-1.
90' + 4' PENALTY! Ronaldo demonstrates his quick feet and cuts inside of Sanabria who brought the striker down. The referee was well placed to award the spot-kick. Ronaldo will take it…
90' + 2' GOAL DISALLOWED! Cuadrado gets away down the right-hand side of the penalty area and drills a low shot across the box. Ronaldo peels away from Zapata and turns the ball into the bottom right corner, but after consulting VAR, the goal is ruled out as the Portuguese attacker just strayed offside.
90' + 1' Juventus have only won one of their last four Serie A games against Genoa when they were top of the league coming into that matchday. Can Sarri’s side find a late winner?
90' There will be four added minutes at the end of this match.
90' GREAT BLOCK! Dybala shows great feet to create a yard of space on the edge of the away side’s penalty area before sliding the ball through to Ronaldo. From the right side of the box, the Portuguese striker’s effort is bravely blocked behind for a corner by Zapata. The resulting set-piece is once again easily dealt with.
L. Bonucci
Yellow Card
89' Bonucci is shown a late yellow card after catching Pinamonti as the Genoa forward looked to skip beyond him on the halfway line.
A. Rabiot
Yellow 2nd/RC
87' RED CARD! Rabiot, who has only been on the field for a short period of time, is shown a second yellow card for sliding in late and from behind on Gumus. Juventus, much like Genoa, are now down to 10 men.
86' Following a corner from the right, Costa picks up the ball a few yards outside the box and curls a strike over the top of Radu’s goal.
I. Radovanović
K. Agudelo
84' The away side make their final change of the match as Agudelo goes off to be replaced by Radovanovic.
83' SAVE! Dybala once again turns provider as he this time picks out Costa with a cross, but the Brazilian’s header from the middle of the box is gathered by Radu.
A. Sanabria
C. Kouamé
81' Genoa opt to make another substitution as the goalscorer, Kouame, is replaced by Sanabria. There are just less than 10 minutes of normal time left to play.
80' JUST WIDE! Costa almost has an instant impact after coming onto the field as he fires a well-struck shot just wide of the near post after cutting in from the right wing. Radu looked beaten by that effort.
Douglas Costa
F. Bernardeschi
79' Juventus make their final change of the match as Costa comes on in place of Bernardeschi. The score is still 1-1.
78' Bonucci stays forward as Sarri’s team continue to look for another goal, but this time his cross from the far side is headed wide to the right of Radu’s goal by Ronaldo.
77' ANOTHER SAVE! Bonucci’s cross from the right is well controlled by Bernardeschi before the attacker spins and fires a left-footed effort straight at Radu. Juventus continue to press forward.
A. Rabiot
Yellow Card
76' Rabiot is the latest player to pick up a yellow card after tripping Schone when the midfielder skipped beyond him on the halfway line.
74' OPENING! Dybala cuts in from the right-hand side and floats a cross into the far post for Ronaldo to attack. The striker peeled away from Zapata but sent his header wide to the left of Radu’s goal.
72' CLOSE! Following Bernardeschi’s shot, the resulting corner is sent into the centre of the box by Bentancur. Ronaldo rises highest to meet the delivery, but his close-range header is well held by Radu.
71' GOOD CHANCE! After setting the ball out of his feet, Bernardeschi drives a low shot towards goal from outside the box. The well-struck effort looked destined for the bottom left corner, but Radu dove down quickly to steer the shot behind for a corner.
70' Despite being a man down, Genoa are still looking to get forward at every opportunity. The ball breaks kindly for Agudelo who is able to drive the away side up the field.
S. Gümüş
G. Pandev
68' Motta makes his first alteration of the match as Pandev is replaced by Gumus. It remains 1-1 with just over 20 minutes of normal time left to play.
67' Juventus are starting to pile on the pressure now as they look for another goal. Rabiot gets away down the left side of the penalty area, but his cross is just behind Ronaldo who could not quite bring it under control.
66' GOOD SAVE! Dybala once again creates some space to unleash a strike from range, but Radu is quickly down to his right to deny the attacker.
65' BLOCK! After some neat link-up play down the right flank, the ball gets driven into the area where Dybala’s first-time strike is blocked behind for a corner by Zapata. The resulting set-piece comes to nothing as Genoa easily clear their lines.
63' Minutes after coming on, Ramsey concedes a free-kick for a late foul on Agudelo inside the Juventus half.
A. Rabiot
S. Khedira
61' It is a double change for the reigning champions as Rabiot comes onto the field in place of Khedira.
A. Ramsey
B. Matuidi
61' Juventus make their first change of the match as Matuidi comes off for Ramsey. It remains 1-1.
60' SAVE! Bentancur lays the ball off into the path of Ronaldo, who fires straight at Radu from outside the box.
58' Dybala combines well with Khedira on the edge of the away side’s penalty area before seeing his left-footed shot deflect off Romero and into the arms of Radu.
F. Marchetti
Red Card
57' ANOTHER RED CARD! Following Pandev’s foul on Dybala, Marchetti, an unused substitute, has been shown a red card by the referee for disputing the decision.
G. Pandev
Yellow Card
56' Pandev is the latest player to receive a yellow card after bringing down Dybala deep inside the Juventus half.
55' Juventus have only lost two of their last 29 Serie A games played on a Wednesday. One of those was a 1-0 defeat to Genoa back in October 2014.
53' Rugani fires in an effort from 30 yards which is blocked by Bonucci on the edge of the visitors’ penalty area.
F. Cassata
Yellow 2nd/RC
51' RED CARD! Cassata cynically pulls Dybala’s shirt on two occasions as the attacker looked to break, and the referee shows him a second yellow card. Genoa are down to 10 men.
50' The visitors are working the ball around very well at present as they look to force an opening from deep. Cassata floats a pass over to the right for Ghiglione as Motta’s side continue to keep possession.
48' Following a corner to the right, Juventus fail to get rid of the danger and Kouame finds himself in space to try his luck from range. The scorer of the equalising goal looks to curl an effort inside the far post, but his shot is overhit and sails over the bar.
46' We are back underway! Giua, the referee, blow his whistle and Juventus get the second half kicked off.
Juventus will look to improve in the second half after failing to find their rhythm for much of the opening 45 minutes. Ronaldo has struggled to get into the game thus far, and Sarri will seek to get the experienced goalscorer more involved after the break as the reigning champions look to reclaim top spot in Serie A. Genoa, meanwhile, will be pleased with their first-half display and will look to continue in much the same fashion after the restart. Ghiglione has found space down the right flank on numerous occasions, and that is an area that Motta will look to exploit going forward.
After an end-to-end opening half, there is nothing to separate Juventus and Genoa at the break. The hosts took the lead after 36 minutes when Bentancur’s delivery into the area from the left-hand side of the pitch was steered beyond Radu from close range by Bonucci. Genoa responded well to going behind and equalised four minutes later when Kouame’s right-footed strike bounced into the bottom right corner after deflecting off his left leg to ensure that both sides went into half time on level terms.
45' HALF TIME: JUVENTUS 1-1 GENOA
44' Ronaldo is clipped by Ghiglione and the Portuguese international wins a free-kick deep inside Juventus’ half.
42' Genoa look full of confidence following that equalising goal and are now enjoying a good period just before half time. Juventus are defending well, but the visitors are applying some pressure as they look for another goal.
K. Agudelo
Assist
40' After Sarri’s side failed to clear the danger following Schone’s earlier free-kick, Agudelo showed great awareness to slide a well-weighted pass to his left for Kouame who applied the finish.
C. Kouamé
Goal
40' GOAL! Genoa are level! The hosts fail to clear their lines and Agudelo slides the ball into the path of Kouame. From a few yards outside the area, the forward strikes his effort against his left leg, which wrong-foots Buffon before falling into the bottom right corner. 1-1.
39' GOOD SAVE! Schone steps up to take the resulting set-piece, and the midfielder’s curling strike is parried away by Buffon at the far post.
D. Rugani
Yellow Card
38' Rugani is shown a yellow card for a late tackle on Agudelo. Genoa win a free-kick in a dangerous central position.
R. Bentancur
Assist
36' The home side have struggled to break down Genoa thus far, but Bentancur’s cross into the area was inch perfect for the captain, Bonucci, to attack and nod beyond Radu from close range.
L. Bonucci
Goal
36' GOAL! Juventus take the lead! Following a corner from the left, Bentancur dangerously whips the ball into the box and Bonucci is able to get ahead of Radu and steer the delivery into the top left corner. 1-0.
34' GREAT CHANCE! After Genoa lost possession in a dangerous area, Dybala was able to pick up the loose ball and work his way into the penalty area after skipping beyond a number of defenders. The Argentine set himself well, but his curling effort towards the far corner was tipped away by Radu.
32' SAVE! Ronaldo tries his luck from distance, but his right-footed shot is well saved by Radu, who was quickly down to his right to make the save.
31' OPENING! Ghiglione gets away down the right wing and drives a low cross into the box. Pandev meets the delivery, and, after getting the ball out of his feet, slices his effort from the centre of the box over the bar.
30' Sarri’s side continue to see plenty of the ball on the halfway line, but Genoa’s well-organised defensive unit is proving difficult to break down.
R. Bentancur
Yellow Card
28' Bentancur goes into the book after dragging Pandev to the floor when the attacker looked to launch a quick counter. He can have no complaints with that decision.
27' Cuadrado is once again given the space to advance down the right-hand side of the field before laying the ball off to his left for Dybala. The Argentine goes for goal from the edge of the penalty area, but Ghiglione is alert to the danger and gets across to make a crucial block.
25' Cuadrado is a little too eager to win the ball back off Kouame and concedes a free-kick down the far side of the field. Schone’s in-swinging delivery is headed over Buffon’s goal from the centre of the box by Zapata.
23' The away side are enjoying a good spell of possession at present. After neatly advancing the play down the left flank, Cassata’s cross into the box is overhit and runs behind for a goal-kick.
21' The resulting set-piece, which is swung in by Khedira, is easily headed away after failing to beat the first man.
20' Cuadrado drives into the Genoa half before eventually being stopped by Agudelo who stops the Colombian in his tracks down the right wing with a cynical foul.
18' Dybala is looking full of confidence and after cutting in from the right-hand side of the field, drills a well-struck shot over the top of Radu’s goal.
16' SMART SAVE! Khedira’s under-hit cross is headed away to Dybala on the edge of the Genoa area, and the Argentine unleashes a fierce effort that Radu is forced to tip over the bar.
14' Cuadrado looked to skip away from Ankersen down the right flank, but is fouled by the Genoa defender. The hosts win a free-kick.
12' CHANCE! Ghiglione slides a good ball down the right-hand side of the Juventus penalty area for Pinamonti to chase. The forward beats Rugani to the pass, but sees his effort across goal saved by Buffon.
10' Bernardeschi has been heavily involved early on and once again finds himself in a pocket of space just behind Ronaldo and Dybala. The Italian sets himself before firing over the bar from range.
8' Cassata picks the ball up and looks to drive Genoa forward, but the midfielder is clipped by Bernardeschi and the away side are awarded a free-kick in their own half.
6' SAVE! Bonucci plays a searching throughball over the top of the away side’s defence towards Bernardeschi. From the centre of the box, the Italian’s right-footed strike is well saved by Radu when it looked destined for the top left corner.
F. Cassata
Yellow Card
4' After an early warning moments ago, Cassata picks up the first yellow card of the match for another foul on Dybala deep inside the Genoa half.
2' Dybala is cynically brought down by Cassata and the hosts win a free-kick inside their own half.
1' Kick off! The referee, Antonio Giua, blows his whistle and Genoa get the game underway.
The teams are out, and kick-off will soon be upon us here at Allianz Stadium.
Genoa have won only two of their 52 away Serie A matches against Juventus.
Juventus come into this clash having won seven of their previous nine games, conceding only eight goals in that time. Maurizio Sarri’s side currently sit second in Serie A, but a win against Genoa could see them return to the top of the table. The visitors, meanwhile, have lost five of their opening nine matches, and come into this match 18th in the league. Newly-appointed manager, Thiago Motta, will be hopeful that his team will be able to end their run of failing to win away from home in Serie A since February 2019.
The hosts make six changes from their draw to Leece with Buffon, Cuadrado, Rugani, Matuidi, Khedira and Ronaldo replacing Szczesny, Danilo, De Ligt, Can, Miralem Pjanic and Gonzalo Higuain. Genoa, on the other hand, make three alterations as Agudelo, Pandev and Kouame come into the side in place of Radovanovic, Lukas Lerager and Gumus.
