Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Both teams are in action next week in the Copa del Rey as Barcelona play Cultural Leonesa on the road, while Madrid are also away at Melilla.
Barcelona and Luis Suarez have humiliated Real Madrid in El Clasico this afternoon. The Catalan club put five goals past their rivals, three from the boot of Suarez, to move back to the top of LaLiga. Ernesto Valverde's men were dominant in all areas of the pitch for the majority of the game, although there was a brief period in the second half where Madrid could have equalised. Goals from Philippe Coutinho and Suarez had put Barca into a 2-0 lead at the break, but Marcelo's strike brought the visitors back into the contest. Luka Modric hit the post minutes later, while Karim Benzema then had a free header that would have levelled the scores, but he guided his attempt over the bar. Suarez punished the Frenchman by notching a second and then completed his hat-trick to put the game beyond doubt. Arturo Vidal poured on the agony late on, scoring a fifth goal with a close-range header. Julen Lopetegui was under huge pressure before the match, it's difficult to see a long-future for him at the Bernabeu after this hammering.
90' + 2' FULL-TIME: BARCELONA 5-1 REAL MADRID
90' + 1' MISS! Benzema sums up Madrid's performance as he combines with a one-two with Mariano to break into the left inside channel. He has time and space to find the bottom corner, only to pull his effort wide of the post. Another poor attempt from the Frenchman.
90' There will be two minutes of added time.
89' SAVE! Courtois prevents Suarez from notching a fourth goal as he makes a brilliant point-blank save to deny the forward. Barca passed their way through the Madrid defence with ease before Sergi Roberto teed up Suarez in the middle. He connected with his strike on the volley, but Courtois was well positioned to make the stop.

87' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! BARCELONA HAVE FIVE!!!! VIDAL SCORES!!! Barca are piling on the agony for Madrid as they score their fifth goal of the match. Dembele collects on the left flank and beats a challenge before lifting a cross towards the back post. Vidal rises to meet the ball, planting his effort into the back of the net. Madrid's humiliation is complete.

86' Madrid are being humiliated late in the game by Barcelona as every completed pass is being met by a cheer from the home crowd.

83' Sergi Roberto forces a mistake from Ramos before poking a pass through to Suarez, who does the rest with a composed finish.

83' GOALLLLLLLLL!!!! SUAREZ HAS A HAT-TRICK!!! BARCELONA 4-1!!! Without Messi Barca needed their main man to perform and the Uruguayan has risen to the occasion. He latches on to Sergi Roberto's offload following a mistake by Ramos. The forward surges into the right inside channel before lifting his strike over Courtois into the net. That should seal the three points for Valverde's men.
M. Díaz
Marcelo
Real Madrid
82' Mariano comes on to the field to replace the ailing Marcelo.
81' Marcelo offloads down the left with a neat backheel and immediately pulls up with a hamstring complaint. That did not look good for the Brazilian.
79' Barcelona are back in control of the game and are moving the ball well enough to keep Madrid at arm's length.
Marco Asensio
G. Bale
Real Madrid
77' Bale is withdrawn with his side needing two goals to level the match. A surprising one from Lopetegui as Asensio comes on to the pitch.
L. Suárez
Yellow Card
Barcelona
77' Suarez lunges late on Nacho and goes into the book.
Sergi Roberto

Barcelona
75' Sergi Roberto lifts a cross into the box, and although he may have been looking for Alba, Suarez takes it out of the air to head home.

Goal
Barcelona
75' GOALLLLLLLLLLL!!! SUAREZ NOTCHES HIS SECOND GOAL!! BARCA 3-1!!!! Suarez scores a huge goal to restore the home side's two-goal cushion. Barca raided upfield on a counter led by the pace of Dembele. He offloaded to Sergi Roberto on the right flank, who lifted a cross into the box. Sergi Roberto may have been looking for Alba behind the Uruguayan, but he used his predatory instincts to take the ball out of the air and guide a headed effort beyond the reach of Courtois.
O. Dembélé
Philippe Coutinho
Barcelona
74' Coutinho makes way for Dembele for the home side. Barcelona need another outlet to stretch the Madrid defence.
73' A searching long ball forward from Busquets almost finds the run of Suarez, but it just speeds away from him and into the hands of Courtois.
72' Marcelo tries to find space down the left, but on this occasion Sergi Roberto and Semedo are there to double up to prevent the cross.
71' Neither side has been able to control the game in the second half. It has been end-to-end action.
Nélson Semedo
Rafinha
Barcelona
69' Valverde needs to strengthen his backline. Semedo comes on for Barca to replace Rafinha, which will see the Portuguese slide into his natural full-back role and push Sergi Roberto further forward.
68' WHAT A MISS! Benzema has to score. Vazquez makes a run down the right and puts a brilliant cross into the box for the Frenchman, who has a free header six yards from the net. All he has to do is place his effort on target and it's a sure goal. However, Benzema guides his attempt over the bar. A shocking miss.
66' A long ball releases Suarez over the top, but between Nacho and Ramos, Los Blancos manage to clear the immediate danger. The Uruguayan keeps running and is able to win a corner for his team. Great work ethic leading the line by Suarez.
64' BLOCK! Ramos has to act in the Madrid box to stop Alba getting a clean strike on the ball from Coutinho's offload. The full-back attempted to guide a left-footed strike towards goal, but the Madrid skipper was there with a challenge to divert it wide of the target.
62' OFFSIDE! Kroos slides a pass into the feet of Isco, who sees his effort charged down by Pique on the slide. The flag is up for offside against the Spaniard, although replays show that it was a close call indeed.
60' OFF THE POST! It's Barcelona's turn to be denied by the post as Suarez sees his close-range effort cannon off the frame. Sergi Roberto is released by a ball over the top from Rakitic and he guides the ball across the face of goal towards Suarez. The Uruguayan has to stretch behind him to make contact and results in the ball striking the post and bouncing to safety.
58' Isco floats a dangerous cross into the box after collecting a short corner, but Rakitic is well placed in the middle to head away. Ramos screams in frustration at the back post where he would have had a free header.
58' It's a complete role reversal from the first half as Barcelona are all over the place at the back now.
56' OFF THE POST! Madrid are centimetres away from an equaliser as Modric strikes the post. Barcelona lose possession on the edge of their own box and the midfielder takes control before unleashing a right-footed strike towards the bottom corner. Ter Stegen is flat-footed and beaten, but the post comes to the home side's rescue to deny Modric.
55' CHANCE! Madrid have come to life in the second half and should be level. Marcelo swings a dangerous cross into the box for Ramos to attack with a header. The Madrid skipper is unmarked, but he can only direct his attempt over the bar.
54' BLOCK! Benzema uses quick feet to turn the ball into the path of Bale in the box. The Welshman tries to create half-a-yard to fire at goal, but Pique is there to make an important block at the near post.
G. Bale
Yellow Card
Real Madrid
53' Bale is late on Rakitic in the middle of the park and goes into the book.
52' Suarez wins a corner off the legs of Casemiro with another driving run. Barcelona need to reassert their control of proceedings here.
Marcelo
Goal
Real Madrid
50' GOALLLLLLLLLLL!!!! MARCELO SCORES!! MADRID 2-1!! Out of nothing the visitors are back in the game as Marcelo seizes on a loose ball in the Barcelona box and hammers the ball into the net. Madrid cut the home side open down the right flank and Isco supplied a dangerous low cross into the penalty area. It was deflected into the path of the Brazilian, who made no mistake with his strike. Game on.
50' Suarez makes a probing run to the edge of the Madrid box. Rakitic makes the run outside his team-mate, but the Uruguayan cannot force the ball to him amid pressure from Modric.
49' Marcelo pulls away down the left and lifts a dangerous cross towards the back post for Benzema, but Lenglet is there ahead of the forward to clear the danger with a vital header.
48' Suarez tries to catch Kroos in possession in his own half, but fouls the German in the process.
46' Rakitic advances forward to collect a pass from Coutinho and he goes for goal from 30 yards, but he pulls his effort well wide of the post.
46' We're back underway at Camp Nou.
Lucas Vázquez
R. Varane
Real Madrid
46' Varane makes way at the break and is replaced by Vazquez. Lopetegui knows that his side need goals.
Although Barcelona have their 2-0 lead, they will feel that they have left goals out on the pitch in the first half. There should be plenty more to come from the home side if they continue in the same manner in the second period. For Madrid and Julen Lopetegui, they have to conjure something at the break to get them back into the contest otherwise this could be an embarrasing defeat.
Barcelona are in complete control of El Clasico at the break at Camp Nou courtesy of goals from Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez. Real Madrid were all over the place at the back and lacked any penetration going forward, allowing the home side to seize command of the contest. Coutinho opened the scoring as he finished a sublime team move down the left flank from Jordi Alba's cross. Barca need a video review from the referee to notch their second after Suarez was bundled over by Raphael Varane in the box. The decision was given in favour of Ernesto Valverde's men, allowing the Uruguayan to convert from 12 yards.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: BARCELONA 2-0 REAL MADRID
45' + 1' Kroos wastes the free-kick and allows Barcelona to clear the danger. The home side break on the counter through Suarez. He has support, but ambition gets the better of him as he tries a strike from distance that he skews wide of the target.
45' There will be one minute of added time.
44' Isco goes down under pressure from Lenglet down the right flank. He wins Madrid a free-kick in a good position just before the break.
43' CHANCES! Suarez raids down the right flank and digs out a cross to the back post. Pique is there, but he cannot force his effort towards goal. Barca keep the pressure on the visitors and win the ball back. Rafinha collects and goes for goal on the edge of the box, curling his effort over the bar.
42' Isco brings down Rafinha in the Madrid half and presents Barca with a free-kick, but the Brazilian fails to beat the first defender with his cross into the box.
41' Rakitic outbattles Kroos for possession in the middle of the park and it allows Rafinha space and time on the ball. The Brazilian spots the run of Alba down the left, but he overhits his offload straight through to Courtois.
Nacho
Yellow Card
Real Madrid
39' Nacho is late in his challenge on Coutinho on the flank. The referee spots the incident and books the Madrid full-back.
I. Rakitić
Yellow Card
Barcelona
38' Rakitic stops the progress of Bale on the charge and goes into the book.
37' CLOSE! Busquets turns dilligently away from two challenges before lifting a sublime pass over the top for Alba. The full-back lifts a dangerous ball into the middle that Suarez does not attack. It flies across the face of goal without being nudged towards goal. All it needed was a touch from a red and blue shirt.
35' Madrid waste an opening from a free-kick after Bale was fouled by Pique. Marcelo's cross failed to beat the first defender, while the favour was returned by the Welshman with a late lunge on the Barcelona man to hand the home side an opportunity to clear their lines from a free-kick.
34' The visitors have nothing to build their game around at the moment. Barcelona look threatening every time they push forward and that is forcing the Madrid midfield to drop back rather than push forward.
32' Madrid are reeling here. They cannot afford to concede a third goal before half-time, especially considering their woes at the other end of the pitch.
L. Suárez
Penalty Goal
Barcelona
30' GOALLLLLLLLL!!!! SUAREZ CONVERTS!!! BARCELONA 2-0!!! The striker holds his nerve from 12 yards, curling his effort away from the dive of Courtois into the bottom corner. The Madrid keeper went the correct way, but the precision of the strike from Suarez beat his hand.
30' PENALTY TO BARCELONA! The referee overturns his initial decision after looking at the review and awards the spot-kick to the Catalan club. Suarez will take the penalty.
29' VAR! The referee wants a second look at the incident as Suarez was nudged by a clumsy challenge by Varane. All eyes in Camp Nou are on Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez.
28' PENALTY SHOUT! Suarez goes down in the box under pressure from Varane after latching on to Alba's offload. The referee turns down his appeal for a penalty on first glance.
26' All hands on deck for Barcelona as Isco probes down the left flank. The home side repel the danger from the Spaniard's cross as far as Ramos on the charge 30 yards from goal. The Madrid skipper goes for goal, but his effort is saved with ease by Ter Stegen.
24' Barcelona are enjoying 70% possession over their rivals halfway through the first half.
22' Coutinho tries to be too cute in the final third, nudging a blind offload for Suarez from Alba's pass, but the Uruguayan and his team-mate are not on the same page.
20' Madrid apply pressure at the other end of the pitch through Bale, but his progress is halted by a good challenge from Pique. Barcelona swarm the ball to quell the threat from the players in support of the Welshman.
19' SAVE! A mistake at the back from Nacho allows Arthur a strike at goal from the edge of the box. The full-back failed to control a powerful offload from Ramos and the ball went straight to the Barcelona midfielder. He curled his effort towards the top corner, only to be denied by a fine save from Courtois.
17' Marcelo has space 20 yards from goal for Madrid and he goes for a right-footed strike. It bounces short of Ter Stegen, but spits up off the ground forcing the keeper to parry the attempt before making the claim at the second effort.
16' A cross-field pass from Rakitic releases Alba into space down the left. He goes for the one-two with Coutinho, only to be denied by an interception from Nacho.
14' Barcelona break with menace down the right on this occasion, but Sergi Roberto just sends his cross over the heads of his team-mates in the middle.
13' Bale has a solo run at the Barcelona defence and goes for goal from distance, only to hammer his attempt straight at Ter Stegen.
Jordi Alba
Assist
Barcelona
11' Alba makes a great run down the left and then takes the ball in stride before picking out Coutinho to score.
Philippe Coutinho
Goal
Barcelona
11' GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! COUTINHO FIRES BARCA AHEAD!!!! 1-0!!! The home side take the lead with a superb team goal. Rakitic releases Alba over the top of the Madrid defence with a sublime throughball. The full-back takes the ball in stride to break into the box. Alba holds his composure to cut it back for Coutinho in the middle. The cross leaves Courtois stranded allowing the Brazilian to pick his spot, placing his effort into the bottom corner.
10' Barcelona are attempting to establish a rhythm in their play with short passes in the middle of the park.
8' OVER! Bale runs down the left flank and he cuts the ball back into the middle for Benzema. The Frenchman takes the strike on the half-volley, only to blast his effort over the bar. He could have done better in that position after the Welshman's run.
7' The Catalan club are seeing a lot of the ball in the early stages. It will be interesting to see who drives their play in the attacking third in the absence of Messi.
5' Barcelona work the ball down the left flank, but Suarez and Rafinha cannot combine on the edge of the box. Arthur lifts an effort towards goal, although Courtois has not problem making the claim.
3' Coutinho is played into space for the home side down the left flank. He has options in the middle, but the Brazilian overhits his cross into the middle to let Madrid off the hook.
2' OFFSIDE! Benzema moves a fraction too early as he latches on to Isco's offload in the final third and the flag goes up for offside. The Frenchman needed to hold his discipline there and he would have been through on goal.
1' We're underway at Camp Nou.
Here come the players. It's almost time for the action.
Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last three league games at Camp Nou (won one, drawn two), never in El Clasico history have they managed to stay unbeaten in four consecutive games.
Real Madrid have made one change to their side from the team that beat Viktoria Plzen during the week. Vazquez drops out of the side as Varane comes back into the fold, which sees Nacho slide across into the full-back position. All eyes are on the final third as Madrid have struggled immensely to find the net this term. Benzema, Bale and Isco have to produce for their side this afternoon.
Barcelona are of course without the presence of Messi, who will miss time with a fractured arm sustained in the win over Sevilla. Rafinha was called into the side to replace the Argentine surprisingly for the contest against Inter during the week. He played well against the Italian side so much so that Valverde has kept faith with the Brazilian for the clash with their biggest rivals. Barcelona name an unchanged team from their win over Inter, with Suarez leading the line alongside Rafinha and Coutinho. Dembele has to settle for a place on the bench.
SUBS: Keylor Navas, Mariano Diaz, Federico Valverde, Lucas Vazquez, Alvaro Odriozola, Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Nacho Fernandez, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo; Luka Modric, Casemiro, Toni Kroos; Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Isco.
SUBS: Nelson Semedo, Ousmane Dembele, Jasper Cillessen, Malcom, Munir El Haddadi, Arturo Vidal, Chumi.
BARCELONA (4-3-3): Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Sergi Roberto, Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, Jordi Alba; Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Arthur; Rafinha, Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho.
Barcelona and Real Madrid meet in the first LaLiga Clasico of the season. This will be the first match between the teams without Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi since 2009. Ronaldo moved to Juventus during the summer, while Messi suffered a fractured arm in his side's win over Sevilla last time out. However, there is still plenty of star power on the field in a crucial clash. Both teams have been far from their best in the early stages of the campaign. Barcelona rounded into form with an impressive win over Sevilla before defeating Inter in the Champions League during the week. Ernesto Valverde's men can move back to the top of LaLiga with a win over their rivals after being displaced by Atletico Madrid yesterday. Real Madrid cannot afford to lose this game. Julen Lopetegui is under huge pressure in his role as his team have failed to win their last four matches in the Primera Division, including back-to-back defeats at the hands of Alaves and Levante. A triumph over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League stem the tide slightly, but a defeat would put Lopetegui in a very delicate position.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid at Camp Nou.
