Owusu Bempah celebrates with Hearts of Oak mates

The Phobians have cut the gap between them and Asante Kotoko with just a point separating the two as the Porcupine Warriors remain at the summit with 24 points, but lost

Accra Hearts of Oak put behind them their internal wrangling to record a one nil win over Amidaus Professionals at the Tema Sports Stadium in a highly entertaining game on Sunday.

The Phobians made their intention of amassing all the three maximum points known from the onset as they took an early lead in the sixth minutes.

Emmanuel Hayford who is gradually becoming a dead ball expert culled in a free kick with left-back Owusu Bempah powering a header to give his side the lead.

After the goal, it was a ding-dong battle with each side making incursions to the other's penalty box. Hearts of Oak could have doubled their lead but Amidaus goalkeeper Eric Ofori-Antwi pulled some world-class saves to keep the scores at one nil.

Players such as Joseph Quansah, Nafiu Iddrisu, Aryeetey and others put their acts together with some brilliant inter-positional play and in one of such moves it took the experience of Ivorian-import Robin Gnagne to thwart the effort in the 30th minute.

The end to end action continued with Romeo Agban going on a solo move but his final delivery was once again saved by Ofori-Antwi whilst right back Kofi Koomson also initiated a quick counter attack and moved with pace but he was stripped off the ball by Hearts centre back Nuru Sulley inside the box.

The second half saw the Phobians piling pressure on their opponents for a second goal. Hayford fired a pile drive which was parried away to the corner area by Antwi whereas at the other end two of Nafiu’s attempts forced some great saves from Philemom McCarthy.

Amidaus Professionals brought on striker Daniel Gozah for Iddrisu and this brought a little bite to the attack of the home side as they continued to fight for the equaliser but Hearts of Oak remained resolute till the final whistle.

The Phobians have cut the gap between them and Asante Kotoko with just a point separating the two as the Porcupine Warriors remain at the summit with 24 points after losing to Ashantigold whiles Hearts, who parted ways with coach David Duncan on Friday, move to second with 23 points.
