Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds reveals how 'maniac' Ben Foster delivered one of the 'greatest moments' of his life

The former Manchester United and England goalkeeper returned to north Wales to much fanfare last year, coming out of retirement to play for the then-National League club. Foster went on to make eight league appearances for Wrexham in 2022-23, with his most notable contribution being a stoppage time penalty save against title rivals Notts County. His last-gasp stop secured a stunning 3-2 win as the Red Dragons were eventually promoted as champions, a moment Reynolds has relived in a recent podcast.

Speaking on Yours Mine Away Podcast hosted by current Wrexham shot stopper Mark Howard, the Hollywood star said: "One of the greatest moments of my life was due to a last-second save [from Foster]. That's the moment. But when you see a goalkeeper score a goal it's kind of amazing. If you could inject a reel of goalkeepers scoring goals into my veins I would die a very happy man."

Foster never found the back of the net but did keep three clean sheets in the league that term. He is now perhaps best known for his own Cycling GK podcast which boasts 1.47 million subscribers. And Reynolds claims Foster has the making of a TV superstar, adding: "Oh my God, what a maniac, too. Just an absolute beast. I don’t understand how he ended up a professional athlete though. He just seems like he should only be on TV 24/7. Like I’m convinced he sleeps in a full sprint with his eyes wide open. His little goalkeeping GoPro camera is everywhere. He’s wearing them and it’s crazy, so brazen, too. I suppose it’s a bit of a life lesson in being fearless in failure."

The eight-cap England international decided to hang up his gloves this season after initially starting Wrexham's first four League Two matches, citing his poor performances as being a wake up call. But Reynolds will probably wish Foster had stayed given the recent calamities of Arsenal loanee Arthur Okonkwo between the sticks, who was responsible for his side's 3-1 loss to Salford on Saturday.
